Here is a some video from this past Saturday's CMC race at Summit Point. Great race right up to the point were I ran out of talent :-) By the way, the yellow Mustang was DQ'd after the race....

A couple of other facts...I got the pole for CMC on Saturday. I hate when the overall pole leader brings us to the start in 2nd gear. My temp gauge was pegged within 6 minutes of racing...well over 260 degrees. Which was a little distracting :-)

Well, at least the run-off from turn one wasn't a mosh pit, like the time I drove off there.

Thank the other guys in your series for helping to (eventually) drive up the resale value of my 5.0 :)

And who's the fool mixing it up with you guys in the F430?

Awsome video. I would have run out of patience with the mustang before I ran out of talent.

Fun video.

Did the yellow mustang pass you under a local caution? He seemed to get around right as you were going by a tow truck that was awfully close to the track (lap 2?).

He actually passed me under yellow right after the start. You can see the yellow flag at turn one, the leaders all slowed not knowing what was around the corner. Watch in my mirror as the yellow Mustang decides to make up 5 car lengths and pass me.

He was disqualified after the race. That driver is known for taking liberties for passing under yellow. This was one time where there was my tape and the video from the blue/yellow flame Mustang that was behind me that showed it clear as day.

Honestly, if Colin had given me back my spot, I would not have made it an issue after the race. I felt it serious impacted my race and he has done it numerous times to others. Plus his stunts on the front straight of trying to push me aside were a load of crap. I should of punted his ass a few times :-)

This is what sort of scares me about NASA. Someone "known" for passing under yellow and getting caught yet again would suffer more of a penalty than just being DQ'ed in SCCA Club Racing. Or is there more to the story than that?

And why would you need video of it? Aren't the corner workers calling that kind of thing in?

It did look frustrating. You did seem to be clearly quicker than the yellow mustang. I like how at 6:04 it looks like you tried to sneak past him with the passing traffic. That would have been great it you had been able to pull that off. ;) And who am I to say, but that Mustang driver seems like he had some odd lines. For example at 6:28 and 7:58 is he trying some type of wacky "Scandinavian flick" by turning to the left and then back to the right as he enters turn one?

Why was he DQed?

Let's not get into the SCCA vs NASA debate :-) I think everyone knows on what side of the line we fall.

The corner workers for an SCCA event at a track and a NASA event are usually one and the same. Yes, this guy has passed under yellow twice before in the past year. Funny thing, the two previous times it was at VIR. Not much we can do if the corner workers do not call it in. We do have the ability to take video to race control. The two previous times in car video did not provide conclusive evidence. This time in addition to my in car camera the car behind me provided his. Race control reviewed it and called #81 to control. They said we did not have to stay around they would handle it and they did. Very professional.

I doubt he would have suffered any different penalty in SCCA for a first time pass under yellow. And that is what it was. And like I said, if he had given me the spot back on the next lap, I would not have raised a stink.

Okay, sounds like it was handled similar to an SCCA event, then. That wasn't how you made it *sound* in the first post about it, though.

And I'm curious why you wouldn't have raised a stink? I wouldn't, either, if it was just a random act of a random competitor *and* got the spot back, as you said, but if it was someone I knew had an issue like this and had yet to be caught? Yeah, I'd take that in and not think twice about it. People like that need to be taught a lesson before they kill someone, and I'd hate to think the next time he did it and *did* hit someone that I could have done something about it and didn't. *shrug*

The other times he was spoken to by fellow CMC drivers about it and told the honorable thing would be to DQ himself. If he had given the spot back, then he realized the mistake, did the right thing, hopefully learned and started to gain some respect back from other competitors. No reason to go to the parents (race control) about it. Plus they would ask if I got my position back, I would have said yes and that would be the end of it.

Plus a good way to spoil a weekend is having to trudge up to race control instead of drinking beers and exchanging stories about the race just completed.

I watched the video last night (considering about everything is blocked here at work). You drove well Jim and it looked like a ton of fun. It's good to hear that most in the group have fun with it and cool heads seem to prevail :beerbuds: - AB
