It's easy to speculate on the math ... but I can guarantee there's a LOT more expense involved. I'm not saying he's not making a killing ... but I don't think its as bad as what you guys are thinking.

Awesome! Congrats guys! Good thing you fired that crummy crew chief from last year and got a good one. :D

No, we stopped every two hours, but after one hour the car would spit and sputter after 4K RPM. It sucks when you just passed a car and then had to let him by because the car just basically died for three seconds.

No, and I doubt they would admit to anything anyway. IMO it was pretty much an ITB car ready to race (thus a ringer), but taking nothing away from those guys...they could drive. I guess my point, excuse, whatever, was had our car not fuel starved one-half the time, they wouldn't have been as close as they were in the end.

nah, he just said that it started to starve at an hour. we were able to keep the car out there for 2 hours at a time (2.5 for Steve for the last stint on day 1). it just depended on how "full" we got the tank on driver changes and how many yellows were thrown.

we were only able to get about 7 gallons in each fill up. we suspect that the pump that moves gas from one chamber to the other isn't working properly. drivers did a good job of rocking the car back and forth in the straights to help slosh the gas over to the pickup. coming around the sweeper and turn 14 it would starve pretty badly from what i understand...i'm sure the guys will be fixing that for the next event.

it's a good thing we had the e motor though...any less mpg and i think we would have has some real trouble.

it's like that joke about not having to outrun the bear, just your friend. as long as there's a more egregious ringer at the race you probably won't get cursed.

Make a list and come up with a new profit number then. Either way, he most likely made more in one weekend than most of us did at work in one whole year.

Don't forget that they are running nine races this year so he's having lots of fun...while he's headed to the bank.

True, but some teams/drivers are just plain stupid. In the case of the cursed Mustang, they were 5-10 seconds faster than 90% of the cars on the track. If you are that fast, and can pass that easily, why drive like a prick? They weren't even close to winning due to their penalties and electrical troubles, but since they drove like an a$$ in a clearly illegal car they got the crusher.

When we were discussing people's curse I chose the Mustang also. I didn't want to crush the Saab or Jetta that could possibly beat us. I wanted to beat them fair and square on the track. Not because they got crushed.

I don't know about that. I was approached a year ago about going in on the NASA Ohio region's franchise. Yes, you can make a living off of it and some do. But napkin math does not equal reality. An independent getting the insurance is going to be expensive.

The fringe for NASA regional director, free racing and writing off a lot of cool toys as business expenses :-)

Let's be honest, this is the same math all of us use to justify the sport. Just like Autocrosses only cost 20$.

It is the same math I justified purchasing a 24' enclosed trailer to offset lodging expenses at the track
