So it hit me this morning.... we have a three day event coming up at CMP and I don't know of any stations that still have premium grade gasoline. Does anyone know of any stations in the Mooresville or Charlotte area? I'll need at least 30 gallons of 93 octane to get through three days.

Does CMP still have any in their tanks at the track?

I'll be at CMP on Wednesday and could let you know then if they have it.

Thanks. I am open to 100 octane as well if that ends up being my only choice for fun.

Could you get something like Torco Accelerator(?) and blend your own from Regular?

I had a bit of a panic driving to Charlotte on Sun and finding almost no stations with gas, let alone premium.

Had the same issue driving back from Charlotte on Sunday. Had to hit about three different exits north of Concord before I found one with gas.

Appears to be plenty of all grades in Eastern SC. I am working in the area this week and will post an update on Wednesday. If anything, things are improving in SC. Only problems seem to be around GVL/SPBG.

Also, you can check with CMP to be sure they have race gas.

Yes, that may be my only option. With the new engine going together right now and an appointment with the tuner on Thursday, I'd prefer to give it BP/Amoco 93 instead of my own mix.

The farther you get from the big city, the less of a shortage you'll see. I'm not driving I95, but Pinehurst has shortages, but Laurenburg and Bennettsville have plenty. My guess is you'll find plenty on the way to CMP.

Cheraw had plenty, it appeared this week.
I assume the worst is over down there. Plus, the prices will be a LOT less than the gougers are charging around here.

On a related note, I saw that we are paying more for gas here in wonderful North Carolina than any of the other lower 48 states! Talk about gougers!!!

Look at the gas tax with respect to the lower 48 too and tell me what you think. Then look at the "temporary increase" on the state sales tax, add the 2.5% county sales tax and compare *that* rate with other states in the South. Then ask why the governor says on the one hand that we don't have enough money coming in then on the other hand up and buys Grandfather Mountain from the family that owned it.

 Don’t even get me started on the gas tax!

Before they put the temporary moratorium on the gas tax I wrote a letter (yeah, I know, ha, ha) to the Gov expounding on how it wouldn’t matter if we had great roads if no one could afford to drive on them, and that the highest gas tax in the contiguous states was killing our tourist industry. I immediately got a standard blah, blah, blah, response about how important our roadways are and that there was no way the gas tax could be put on hold. Apparently I wasn’t nearly the only one to write, because soon after that was when Bill Graham came out with his proposal and petition for the gas tax moratorium. It just wasn’t enough, and didn’t last long enough. Our state’s tourism industry is still in serious trouble. Yeah, right, now’s probably the time to buy Grandfather Mountain. No one can afford to drive up there to visit it anyway! OK, I'm done. I feel better now. :soap:

But remember, until yesterday the state government was going to buy a NEW 9 million Citation Excel. To add to their already 5 plane fleet. The news last night left off the 2 planes that NCDOT owns that the Gov flies on.

Now don't get me wrong, 9 million is a cheap airplane. But it would have offered now additional room or range over the Citation V that they already have. Not a significant amount anyway.

They all suck. I'm voting for the Keebler elf, Bill the Cat and Mickey Mouse this year.

Now, I know this is really off topic, but.....

Another personal favorite...Mrs Gov getting almost a 100K raise for teaching law classes at State. I know it's a drop in the bucket, moneywise, but, still.

Now back to your regularly scheduled program.
