Looking at all these events, the One lap of America, AKA Rally, Targa Newfoundland, they all look fun to do, but
they are either far away or involved a lot of road driving in a car that might not be that fun after all to drive on the street for hundreds of miles.

But something like this below will be interesting and I'm sure a lot of people will be interested also.

The idea will be to drive a different track each day for a week.
You should be able to have enough, but not too many participant to do 2 run group. Each run group will do 3X 30 min session to
learn the track and setup the car. Then a 4th 30 min. session where your lap time will be recorded. The best lap time will be kept for the results.
That will be 2 hrs of track time, with 2 run group that should take a little over 4 hrs so everything should be finish early afternoon.
Then in the afternoon you travel to the next track the way you want. Towing your car, driving it, etc.
The next day you repeat the same thing again. With the number of tracks in the Southeast the travel should not be too bad.

A event schedule might be something like this:
Monday AM, Barber Motorsport Park Birmingham AL.
Monday PM, Travel to Road Atlanta.
Tuesday AM, Road Atlanta
Tuesday PM, Travel to Roebling Road
Wednesday AM, Roebling Road
Wednesday PM, Travel to CMP
Thursday AM, CMP
Thursday PM, Travel to VIR
Friday AM, VIR North
Friday PM, VIR Full
Friday evening party, trophy presentation. The best time of each track will be added for the results.
That will be 12hrs of track time in the week.

With the new track High Rock Raceway coming soon. A schedule might be.
Barber Motorsport Park , Road Atlanta, CMP, High Rock Raceway, VIR. or
CMP, Roebling Road, Road Atlanta, High Rock Raceway, VIR or any other possibility.

If you finish at an other track than VIR, than you do a full day with 2 time trial sessions.

Track organizer, can you do something like that?

It could possibly be done... the hardest part would be either a) getting tracks rented on a weekend to "book-end" the week and/or b) getting enough people willing to take a week off from work to cover the expenses involved in putting something like that on. And make no doubt about it, it would be expensive.

DOH!... just noticed you didn't include any weekend events in your mock schedule :)

Secondarily, those of us that organize track days in addition to having a day job, would have to factor in the time off from work.

But sounds pretty damn cool to me... I'm up for the challenge :)

Start getting me some interest!

For an event like this it's should be possible to find some sponsors. To cover some cost.
If the AKA rally can be on Speed Channel.....
Maybe some car magazine.....
Or tire distributor....
Energy drink....
Etc.

Yeah, it would definitely need some "corporate" support to keep entry fees reasonable.

Some things to consider: what would make this more attractive to competitors than One Lap? Should it be One-Lap "South" or something similar with similar competition/rules/classes? Or do we come up with some way to make it more attractive for a broader group of people? (Or a more exclusive group of people?)

2008 One Lap was $2600 per vehicle fee... just as a point of reference.

Maybe: Southeast Track Fest....
Since the car doesn't need to be street legal, I will guess that track only car will most likely be the norm.
I guess that all the TT safety requirement, roll bar, belt, etc. will be needed.
Something like the current TT classing should work. Or maybe in the style of the Redline time attack. http://www.redlinetimeattack.com/index-2.html
That might be also the type of people that might be interested by an event like this.
That will mean also solo driver only and passing everywhere with a point by.

Thinking about it, there are maybe enough DE participants that might be interested to do 5 tracks in five days to do a DE group only.
That will mean that their 4th session will not be time and their group will follow the DE rules. That will open up the event to more participants

One Lap of Dixie?

Southern Fried Lapping Championship?

CHA Tracking Championship-I will be the corporate sponsor as long as it doesn't cost more the $500.

Seriously, two divisions-one for towed vehicles and one for vehicles driven to the tracks with nothing more than a tire trailer.

Having done the One Lap and being the type to wish beforehand that you could tow, I now like the One Lap style. If you must have a towing class, fine, but I'd dig a One Lap style race. Bonus points if you add in a REAL autocross component. One Lap tries, but they just don't know how.

The autocross could be the end of the event on Saturday. Tally results there and do the trophies part of it. Would be an easier day, certainly...

How about 3 tracks in a 5 day period during the week. We could probably pull that off.

1) Roebling
2) CMP
3) VIR

Drivers must arrive at check in between X and X times.

I am down with it. I could see doing 3 tracks in 5 days. And I like the idea of no-towed cars, but I think that would eliminate a lot of people that would go for it.

If you did allow towed cars, then you need to add in an incentive to drive. Something along the lines of measuring the distance between the tracks and calculating the drive time according to the major roads and speed limits. Then, one of the prizes would be the first person to get between stops, from track off at one track to the next track or checkpoint. Those trailering their cars would be at a disadvantage. Or have that time calculation play into the overall winner. Kind of a way to level the playing field between those that would turn fast laps in a track car and those that would turn ok laps in a street car. Make sense?

Just a few thoughts....

I just think it would be easiest to make two seperate divisions. Making a rally between tracks would be A LOT of extra work for somebody. Stacy, you taking notes?

The more I think about it, the more it should be keep simple. 3 or 4 or 5 track in 5 days. 2hrs of track time at each track minimum, more if you do less than 5 track in the week. One day can be used as travel day, and 4 hrs on the last track. Run in a DE format, solo driver only, no time trial. You are doing this for fun, to drive your car on a racetrack.
If the concept work, maybe time trial can be added later on. You travel the way you want between track.
By the way I don't think there is much difference between towing or driving your car. I can very easily follow the speed limit with my towing package. I will used more gas
for sure but it will also be much more comfortable than the track car.

If I did it, it would be simple, but I'm sure I'd find a way to make it difficult :D
