Has anybody used the "Nitto NT-555RII Extreme R road race and auto cross competition radial tire?" I wish they'd come up with a shorter name for it!

Anyway... I called discounttiredirect.com just to get a price quote in my size (275/40/17) and they quoted me $628 including shipping. That didn't sound too bad. A set of Toyos will run me around $200 each new if I really dig and plead for a discount price somewhere. But I LOVE Toyos on track, and they have a proven track record.

So, anyway, just curious to know if anybody around here had actually run the Nitto R compound on track yet.

Well Scott, that was a good idea. Searching on just "nitto" turned up some interesting threads. This one for example:

It sounds like the tires will give Toyo RA1s a run for their money and may even be a better tire for the money for those that have to buy larger sizes, which the Nittos come in.

I wouldn't use them as an autox tire, though some people have, but as a track tire. They are getting very, very good reviews overall, as long as a good tire for the money. As long as you don't expect them to be as fast as Hoosiers, it sounds like you won't be disappointed.

If I get to the track this year, I may very well try a set.

Those are the ones I'm getting for this season. $161/ea shipped from Discount Tire Direct. They almost look like Kumho MXs. I chose those instead of Victoracers because I'll most likely drive them to events a good part of the season. They're even ok in the rain as long as they aren't shot.

The only person I know who has run them on a C4 loves them. He runs mainly track. He said they don't chunk up like Kumho does. Rocks/pebbles don't stick to them really bad unless he does burn outs. He drives to the track with them. He does autocross from time to time. He felt you probably need a couple of passes or really warm day to get them to heat up but wasn't dissapointed even when they were cold on his first pass.

Seems like a good compromise for price and being able to drive to the track even in the rain. We'll see...

Now if I kick your .... in AS of course it's the driver but if I don't then it's the tires
