Kevin:

Why don't you try a Tarheel BMWCCA or NASA HPDE event-see if you
like their run group placement and density better? Rain played
havoc all day sat. Passing off line would be very dicy. Given the number
of spins In yellow-they had all to do to stay on track, let along pick up
the pace.

I ran in Yellow group Sunday but that was
after you moved. The pace had picked up but they were
still consertive as a whole-given the context of the weekend, this
was not a bad thing in my opinion.

I can't add to what Stacy already commented other than
OCB: Other Clubs Becon

Better not let your insurance guy find out the damage was done at a track.

Jim:

When cars when off they were covered by Yellow or waving yellow,
if, correction..when, they got stuck in the mud, and had to be retrieved, we went full Course Black, depending where the car was located or how
close it was to the end of the run. This senerio is comman
during an HPDE but probably rare in a club racing environment.

Things I learned from this event.

Until I get better at it and/or learn that 4 year old heat cycled Azenis make driving in the rain akin to driving on ice, I don't like rain. The first two runs Saturday (Drive straight off Turn 1 so I didn't spin backwards into wall or take someone out and do a 360 in 17 in concert with the car behind me.) and feeling like the car was never under me were no fun. I felt like a novice again. I would have been one of the slow cars Kevin was complaining about, but I never was around him. My third session was dry and I was finally able to run at some speed.

Chuck's classes were better than any of the others I have had in the past. He was able to explain techniques well.

Sunday was fun. Put on the RA1's :banghead: and had plenty of dry track. There were a couple of trains that formed (Maybe 2 all day) and only one that was a PITA. Drivers were very good about letting the whole group get by.

My in-car instructor was really good, I got a lot of good tips, different from what others have said. Diversity is good and it allows experimentation.

Here's hoping for dry weather the next time. I am no longer a THSCC Track virgin.

Yep, that's the attitude I was getting all weekend. Seems like your job as the event director (or whatever your title is) would be to actually listen & do what you could to help - or at least ask one of your "underlings" to see if he could help. Instead, my instructor repeatedly got "blue is full" - which was the exact opposite of truth, as I found out later. I'm glad I didn't give up based on the piss-poor attitude of some of the people in charge, and actually found some other people who could help me. (WHO I THANK WHOLE-HEARTEDLY) Because once the problem was resolved, no thanks to people like YOU... I had a GREAT time and started learning some stuff.

Nope, you won't see me defecting to other clubs, because I'm a member of this club for a reason - I like it here. Since I realized the Alfa Club is running the same weekend as the rallyx at my house, I'll be running VIR Full with the wife. That is, unless you feel I'm too much of a bother & refuse entry.

And I understand how it is to get burned out on something and almost get to the point where you completely stop caring about it, so I won't harbor any hard feelings toward you. Just please, please, please LISTEN to your students and do what you can to help. It makes our experience so much more enjoyable.

Here's 3 smiley faces for you so you know I'm not angry, just expressing my frustration. :D :D :D

Kevin,

I don't think that I know you, but I can understand your frustration. I just gotta say this though. Not every weekend can be the best one ever. Years ago I was in your shoes...moving up through the ranks and sometimes not being put in the "best" run group for me and my experience/ability. It was frustrating to be held up often...try that in a Honda CRX that only makes 105 hp...and get held up AND left behind on the staights.

But, seriously, in this game, you have got to pay your dues. And sometimes that means being in a group that you don't belong...and yes, sometimes there is no room in another run group. It is just a part of it. It will get better the longer you stay at it. This event was sold out, and all groups were full and instructors were maxed out. There may have been room on Saturday...but when the Sunday only drivers came, they would be in an oversubscribed group.

Mark, Stacy, and the whole Tarheel crew work very hard to put these events on, and do it with a smile on thier faces. The fact that you are all bent out of shape about it and venting in the fourm becuase they would not let you have your way, just does not sit so well with me. They may not be perfect, but we are not paying them a dime to do the work either AFAIK...

The New Hampshire branch of THSCC deemed the weekend a success despite the weather being less than ideal.

Thanks to Mark, Stacey, and all the rest of the unnamed folks that make these events great.

We'll see you at Rockingham in October...

Kevin, I think you owe Stacy, Mark, Brad and the whole crew who organizes these events, on their OWN time, for NO pay, so that you, I and everyone else that comes can drive, a BIG apology. I can understand that you were frustrated. But, there is a LOT that goes on behind the scenes that you are not aware of. As Stacy said, instructor/ student pairings are set well before the event. If changes can be made (and make sense) they are made. And they were.

Now think about it this way. Say a rally cross was put on at your farm and everyone bitched about the dust, the ruts, the lack of any paved area to change tires or work on their cars. How would you feel? Pretty good right??

You decided not to go to classroom and bring up the lack of passing signals. How exactly did you expect the issue to be resolved?

We expect that folks want to have a good time at our events. We also expect that they fully understand that, like the other THSCC events, the HPDE weekends are run and put together by VOLUNTEERS!!!! In my opinion its in relatively poor taste to bitch about it in a public forum. Voice your concerns at the event, in private emails later or in the evaluation forms. Go to the class room sessions to voice your concerns in a respectable manner. Everyone involved is pretty easy to work with and has just a couple goals for the weekend: do their best to make sure that everyone has fun and stays safe.

I hope you rethink your feelings on the weekend. If not then I suggest, as Mark and others have, that you might be happier with other groups.

Respectfully,

Ron Spencer

the white c6 was slower than dog snot there Cline; who else did you pass?

Kevin, i feel your pain. let me share some of my personal experience. feruary 2006 with THSCC was snowed out. one week later i am at roebling and it rained the entire weekend. the maroons' in my group would have piled up on each other on any road they were driving that weekend. including the silly kid driving her daddy's sti that thought she knew everything. she was averaging 20 mph slower than the rest of us.

two weeks later i am at VIR grand east with Tarheel BMWCCA. i am slotted in green group even though i have been regularly a yellow student. i have a chip on my shoulder friday night. mid day saturday i have had way more of this BS than i can personally stand. there is a mercedes station wagon that is bigger than my F350 in my group for christ-sakes. and she is driving it like she is in the carpool lane. follow me so far?

well i am hot and not having much fun as i am chomping at the bit to run the speeds i know i am capable of running when i come up on a kid in an e30 in turn 5.

i have to give the kid some credit as he saw me up his ass and he threw his hand out the window for a left side pass immediately. problem was it was in 5A and i punched the throttle only to put my front clip in his passenger door area in 5B. my instructor (Robert Blood) an extremely experienced racer was not pleased. upon the realization of how close i actually came to car on car contact, i pulled track left before the bridege and proceeded to say "OMG i can't believe i just did that" & "i am so sorry, Bob"

being the pro that he is he instructed me to proceed to the pit lane, where he chewed my ass for 5 minutes. while sitting in the pit lane Mr. Blood taught me something i hope i never forget.

i quote this loosely, "we all do this because we have huge balls, it is what makes us want to come here and prove we are the fastest and the craziest out here. but do yourself a favor and don't let your penis drive your car"

Kevin i am sorry, but you are wrong. you have skills and you have a desire, but you have not yet learned the protocol of driving on track. i mean this with the most possible respect for your abilities. get your mind right bro, and your ass will follow. steve

Either Vincent or Tammy (the cute reservation girl at VIR-had to be Vincent, I don't want to be mad at Tammy the cute reservation girl) messed up or reservation and we got kicked out of the Lodge for Sun night. We got a reservation in Roxboro, being cold and wet last thing I wanted to do was go to roxboro and eat Bojangles for dinner. Mark V announced they had an extra room at the Suites (paid for no less) on a first come basis. I was at the top of the paddock near the garages, so to get there fast I slammed my hatch down to drive to the barn. My "brake" tool box sitting in a postion in the trunk other than normal. Broke the window when it slammed down on it, now it is the "Broke Window" tool box.

Moral of the story children: "Haste makes waste, exactly $362.65 of waste."
