What helmets do you all recommend for someone that is on a budget? I intend to go to atleast one track event sometime this year, but I need a new helmet for autocross that would be eligible for tracking as well.

While on the topic on what to buy, I am open to suggestions on where to buy a helmet as well.

Thanks in advance!

UPDATE:

I am currently looking at the ZAMP FSA-1 Full Face SA2005 Helmet from ApexPerformance.net (link). What do you all think?

I have used a helmet before, not just worn one, USED it. Full face is TOP PRIORITY!

Yes, a full face helmet. If you want to use it for dual purpose, look at one of the wide eye port models.

Don't be afraid to give Linda a call at Apex. She is a racer and will point you in the right direction. Plus, if you are a NASA member you get 10% off along with the free shipping.

if the bucket fits ........

i have purchased shoes from Apex Performance. good bunch to deal with.

i use a Simpson Voyager full face with the wide eyeport as Jim suggested.

if you are comfortable with the helmet fitting you properly then $179 seems to me to be budget priced.

while i prefer an open face helmet for autoX & rallyX certainly a full face for track events.

I just bought one from Apex. Used this past weekend at the Dixie tour event. Very comfortable and has good ventilation for a non-pumper helmet. - AB

That's what we purchase as loaner helmets for the HPDE program.
We recommend the Closed Face or Hybred over Open Face designs.

RacerWholeSale.COM or SAFERACER.com typically offer good pricing.
