You talking about the gators at turn 10?

There is a gator there? I always seem to find nothing but dirt

Honestly, I liked the old config just fine. HOWEVER, the one time I did run it I had:

A- A car that would turn
B- A car that didn't have a ton of power
C- A car that would turn
D- A car that powered the correct wheels
E- A car that would turn

I thought it was a blast and a GREAT change of pace.

I had only two real complaints about CMP. The autocross section and the gators. Since it looks like they will be fixing those two things I'm happy and stoked to go back. Maybe it won't be 7800 degrees this time.

For June, it should be a warm 5500 degrees... but in March, it should be a downright chilly 850 degrees

I thought the tight section sucked in my FWD, but even after driving Bernie's RWD Vette I still hated it. Kind of like trying to drive fast in a McDonalds parking lot. I'm assuming I'm not the only one since they are changing that part.

F- A car that swallowed its own throttle body. may it rest in pieces.

March is on my hopeful list. looking forward to it.

Personally, I think those that hate CMP probably never raced there and only did track days there. It sure does suck if you're doing a track day that only lets you pass on the big straights and you catch someone at the end of the back straight. But for racing, I thought it was great. Kicked ass, in fact. You could definitely pass in those two back corners if you really had the run. You needed a damned good run, mind you, but this is racing...it shouldn't be easy!

What I said...

Stacy... you're right about some things there... it's just that I think the 'ads' are vastly different for different cars... but I still think it's too non-technical (my definition)... and as I said it's gotta be a great rac'n place 'specially for a class like SM...

OCTJMO, ICBW...

Steve 'who also mostly agrees with you about Rockingham notwithstanding my ties to the place' Coleman

PS: One long track day was enough to figure out the basic +s and -s... I actually went to sleep riding with Glen, who wasn't exactly taking it easy...

Steve, paddock facilities? Really? Have you *been* to Summit Point or Roebling?

As a matter of fact I have... both of 'um back in the ol corp days... if ya think it's primitive now, think again... ran Summit Point a lot... actually ran the very first race (at least pro race ) ever held there...

They've paved parts of the paddock at CMP. The buildings are new and air conditioned, and the air conditioning works. It's clean. You don't have to swat insects away from your nether regions while going to the bathroom.

All a plus IMO...

I think some folks have gotten a little spoiled by VIR, with its lush rolling hills and country club setting...

You obviously never made it there back when there were only two johns and both were the ol wooden 'down on the farm types'... complete with resident snakes... oh yeah and the ol 'mud pond'... actually except for the trees only 15 feet from the verges and the hidden stumps in the broom straw fields I liked it better then...

I think that's being a bit critical of the new management Steve. They have a 5 year plan. You have to actually give them chance. This is Phase I. I'm sure the guy isn't just made of money and needs to make the phased changes based on budget and expected revenues. This is a start. It's not bad at all.

I think I indicated that was a good deal if it happens and I have no reason to doubt it will in this day and time...

Another thing in the news story that wasn't in Stacy's original post that I like. "The track will also be doing some asphalt repairs to most of the corners to help reduce tire wear along with additional paving to the paddock roads." I've done CMP once and I thought the surface was bit much on tires. Not to mention that grip felt funky. I'll go with you once a year Stacy.

Hmmmm... I spent 5 hours trying to kill a set of already wo out MXs and still had to run 'um several sessions at VIR to do it...

There is plenty of room for you to park Steve, even with a nice utility trailer behind your Miata

Any definitive words about the killer gators? I seem to be drawn to them at The Rock and VIR, so far.

VIR has killer gators? Where?

Run all the way to the end and straight off the end on the outside one at T10... that'll jar the ol kidneys...

Sorry, but I don't see the big deal... they changed one section, and that's it...

To specifically respond to this... its not about WHAT they are doing, it's THAT they are doing it. Hell... even without the track changes, the day garages will make going there almost pleasant in comparison with previous years. That alone should make the track more fun to drive.

See response to Graham...
