Ok so I am in the process of making my Legacy a dual purpose track and rally car. The roll bar is in the process of being constructed from a combination of 2" and 1.5" DOM tubing. I want a seat that is good but also not super expensive. This will only see a couple track days each year and maybe a time trial or two along with 5 or so rallycrosses. I am have been looking at a couple different Corbeau seats as well as some Kirkey seats. I have a feeling that the Kirkey won't be ideal for rallycrossing due to the amount of padding but I might be wrong. I am just looking for opinions on what to look for. TIA

I had Forzas in my Celica when it was an STS car. I would say, with confidence, I wouldn't daily drive with them. I drove the car just to events and to say it was rough was just the half of it... and I don't have any back issues either. - AB

Aaron is a wuss.

I had the Forza 2's in the Talon- Drove 8 hours to PA for a wedding no problem

I had the Forza's in Miata and soon in the 240 and have drove 5+ hours no problem.

Now mind you, it wasnt what I would call "ideal" but it wasn't that badtm

Yup, I'm a wuss :) What springs did you have on those cars? I drove 18 hours one way to Topeka in that thing, with 375# front and 900# rear Eibach coilovers with 400N of compression at the lowest setting in the rear (1600N at the highest setting) on a 2325# car.

In light of the information above, it's all about perspective :) If I had to do it over, I would have nutted up for a more comfortable seat and given up a pound or two on the scales. - AB

I've got Corbeau FX1 Pro and they are not what I would ever describe as comfortable for driving on the street. I've made the trip down to RR and CMP in them and it was not fun. Driving up to VIR is tolerable. And the FX1 Pro supposedly has more padding than the Forza. I'm looking into a Kirkey Deluxe road race seat now. I need the most support and want more layback angle than Forza has. I do have back problems and need the support. I've been told the Kirkey Deluxe makes a good endurance seat.

On the track the Corbeau is pretty good. They could stand to have a bit more bolstering in the thigh/leg area. It would make them harder to get in/out of but you would be locked in better. For the price they are hard to beat though.

I have a set of the Cobra Monaco, and I think that they're more comfortable than the stock Miata seats are FWIW.

Keith----be sure that the roll bar is constructed according to the SCCA Time Trial specs shown in the GCR.

Unless your car is under 2000 lbs, the 1.500" tubing is a no-go.

DOM Tubing requirements for the WHOLE ROLL BAR must be:
Vehicle weight Under 2,000 lbs.----1.500 x .120" wall
Vehicle weight 2,001-3,500 lbs.----1.750 x .120" wall
Vehicle weight over 3,500 lbs.----2.000" x .120" wall

Well that awfully sucks for me. I was going by some old rules I had from who I ran with in NY. The main hoop and rear diagonals were going to be 2" with a 1.5 inch harnes bar and crossbar. Now I guess I will be out $100 in tubing. :x I guess the assumption was just my stupidity, considering that the main hoop and rear diagonals take pretty much all the load and going by my dad's suggestion since he has built numerous cages and bars over the years for cars ranging from 2,200 lbs up to 3,300 lbs.

Not that it matters to many people but I exchanged the 1.5 inch tubing for 2 inch. Ryerson-Tull in Greensboro is great to work with and I would recommend anyone who needs to buy just about any type of metal to go to them. The main roll hoop is bent up, I just need to get the time to actually get the rest of it fitted and assembled then.

For seats I have come across both a Sparco Sprint for a good price or a Sparco Pro 2000 for a decent price but the Pro would cost $100 in shipping to get to me (so that kind of hurts the its a deal factor). Anyone have opinions on either of those seats?

Keith if you don't mind sharing, what was the price per foot for the 2 inch DOM tubing from these guys?

More than I would like to admit. It was $6 per foot. I spoke with Chris Schimmel on where to get the tubing from and he recommended them highly for not buying in bulk. Obviously the more you buy the less you have to pay for each foot.

I did check with a place in Apex but they would have to have it delivered from their supplier and they wanted almost $10 per foot. What I paid for the tubing and having the equipment and know how to make the bar will cost me less than $400 including all the SFI high density padding and such.
