Hey guys... help us make the last event of the year a success!!

We'll be hosting our usual DE and time trial at the NC Speedway in Rockingham October 6th & 7th. Since this is the last event of the year, we try to do it as right as we can... NASCAR garages are available for $25 for the weekend (while they last) and we will be providing a catered buffet style lunch both days for everyone (guests are $10 ea).

The DE weekend is $265 after your THSCC discount...

(Current members simply check the "Member" entry on the order form)
The time trial is $30
(Open to cars prepped w/a minimum of a 4-point roll bar, current date 5 or 6 point harnesses, metal to metal mounted fire extinguisher, and an AMB transponder (some available as loaners or for purchase with advance notice)

We are also working on trying to get a group of vintage and possibly modern NASCAR cars for some exhibition runs around the full oval.

If you haven't driven Rockingham yet, it is something you need to experience at least once in your tracking lifetime, if for no other reason to experience 22 degree banking in your street car :) ... and depending on what happens this fall, there's a possibility this may be your last chance.
(The track is scheduled for sale/auction this winter. Rumor is the American Stock car Association has made an offer.)

It's a short circuit (about 1.6 miles) but feels faster because of the layout. Like VIR South course, you get a ton of laps and the track has a good rhythm and flow to it. This year we added some gators to the infield section to help alleviate some of the debris issues.

I am still entertaining the idea of hosting an Asphalt Ventures lapping day in conjunction with this weekend as well... will update as I close in on the decision.

Oh Yeah... registration link might be helpful huh? ;)

This sounds like a great opportunity.
I'll bet I can get going pretty fast between turns 9 and 3. Then, the adventure begins! I think I'll upgrade my brakes before October.

It can't hurt to upgrade pads and fluid, but no need for a BBK or anything special for Rockingham. Most street cars will top out at around 100 mph to take the banking safely, mostly because of suspension compliance and pucker factor :D It's really not hard on brakes... worse on tires because of track surface and the banking

Registered a couple of nights ago. The Rock is a fun place. I can't wait to try out the new curbing.

Hmmm ... about that... lol

It appears that we kinda got it wrong in a couple places... or at least... didn't make them long enough. We'll be informing everyone there where to watch out for. One in particular (not sure which) is in such a place that a few people have hit the leading edge of it and bent rims.

But mostly I think people either miss the gator alltogether or its just too short (which we knew would be the case until we could afford to extend them. So we'll await the outcome of the track's sale. Until then, we'll just have to be careful. :)

Not as fast as you'd think. I take the banking at about 100MPH in my car and I doubt you'll do much more...and make it that is.

I am sure that is has to be better than NOTHING at all...with all the sand getting dragged on the track when people cut the corners. I can't take near as much curb in the Locost as I used to could in the CRX...so maybe that will help.

Maybe my instructor will let me run R compounds this time? I'd hate to be even with a Cavalier in the NASCAR part! I know I will be behind the rest of the way. If I don't make it? I do need a LS1 for the BMW.

I love the Rock too! So much so that I'm registered with the SCCA for the September HPDE their holding at the Rock..... Only twenty three entries thus far. That equals an open track, so if your free on the 8th & 9th of Sept, enter on myautoevents.com and enjoy an open track. The word on the street is if they don't break even with this one they're not going to try another.

Not so fast "Grape Boy"! Bernie will be at Sanford in the little Green Machine on Saturday. We're bringing the Vette in "track dress" on the trailer, and he's heading down to the Rock after the AX. :car:

(Don't be mad at me, he's the one who just called you "Grape Boy".)

Status Report on what may be our 'LAST' HPDE at The Rock:

Student and Instructor slots are filling up nicely for this far in advance. NASCAR garages at $25 for the weekend will soon be at a premium.

If you're looking for a fun learning experience, and a shot at driving on a 24-degree banked oval at speed, you need to be there in October 8)

Most people who signed up over the last week or so are... I simply haven't had a chance to confirm everyone... but don't worry... if nothing was showing waitlisted, you are in. (Including the garages)
