1) re-configuration of the last three 90 degree turns to fix what
everone does not like about CMP.
2) paving all the infield access roads including a 10 foot strip of
concrete to park your race car on.
3) New timming tower (almost completed)
4) covered garages

What about redoing those dumb ass gators? A feature designed to make you lose control...Alan Wilson must be a tard.

That was on the list of things Brian rattled off in classroom this past weekend. Good thing too - those can yank the steering wheel right out of your hand!

That's better?!?! It can totally be 100+ there in late June.

What about the Roebling date on the 2nd weekend in June?

Well... we knew you would not be able to make that one anymore, so we figured "What's the point?" right?

I'll be drawing up a fairly lengthy letter to Roebling Road, outlining our concerns moving forward; mainly involving facilities and corner workers, and as diplomatically as I can touching on the atmosphere there (and I'm not talking about the weather).

That Father's day weekend must have been a fluke last year, as this year we did not break even for the event. If they have a more desirable weekend available, we'll probably take it, just to keep 5 weekend events next year, but it also may depend on the response I get back about our concerns.

With High Rock moving forward, and the future of CMP looking very bright, its going to be tough for our core participants to justify the drive to Roebling I think.

Stacy - I assume Mark was there taking pictures again?

Yes, he was... thanks for bringing that up. IT usually takes him a few days to process the pics he's got. And I think we'll have some pics from CMP unlike any before. Brian Smith gave us extreme leeway in getting Mark out to various locations around the track... very unlike Mickey and past events.

I can't wait to see what he's come up with! I'm pretty sure he was able to get out on just about every worker station at some point during the weekend.

I'll see if I can't get a couple samples shortly

Any word on pics yet, Stacy?

Feel free to put your Ferodo Brake comments on the Ferodo
thread.

However, I must remark briefly on some of the comments
made:

Anyone using DS2500 at CMP is not going to be happy.
DS2500 is a STREET PAD! IF they stop the car consistanly
and do not fade that would be as good as it gets but don't
espect them to last and don't be suprized if they don't
work as well after the event.

CMP, by nature, requres a TRACK Pad. When the proposed track
re-configuration is performed it should fall in line with VIR North
and other tracks as moderatly brake abusive-but right now
CMP and VIR-S are the most brake intensive venues we visit.

Read the spec of the
compound you purchase, regardless of where you buy pads
(sponsor or not) and make sure your indented use is valid for
that compound.

Take Rotor Temps, even if its just temp paint daubs, and know
what your rotor temps are so you can make an informed decision
on what pad material purchase-regarless of who makes them.

Make, borrow, steal some type of brake cooling ducts/hose
and verify they actually work.
This will stabalize temps and significantly improve pad wear.

Then and only then can you make valid comparisions between
brands and compounds.
Like in my example:
3000 No good. DS1.1 ver,y very, very, good!

Mark - Thanks for doing the Instructor/Mentor thing with me. That was quite educational and fun. Learning CMP at the same time just made it more of a challenge.

Yeah, You and Mark, Me, and a couple of other really put the Miata through the Ringer. 2 sets of pads..and I think 8 hours on track, it kind of became the community car for the weekend.

HT10's here I come.

I would go with the Ferodos if I could.

That sounds painful Marty! That's a lot of abuse. Thanks for letting Mark borrow the Miata for our sessions.

Now role playing was entertaining. Especially the part where I was playing instructor and asked my student (Mark). "So does that needle over there that says E mean Empty or Extra?" This is when the car came to a stop.

I still don't have my review from Mark as to whether I passed or failed. I think that smart-a$$ed remark to him during the role playing may not have added points to my test

Roebing is not definate for 2008. We need to get away from the
Fatherer's Day and they need to get the worker situation fixed
among other things.

Everything was fine on my end Friday (brakes, tires, etc) until my first session on Saturday. About three fourths of the way thru the tranny didn’t want to go into 4th without putting serious effort on the shifter itself. After the session I put the car on ramps just to check the fluid level and see if there was anything amiss. Upon crawling under notice a perfectly spiraled piece of aluminum sticking out between the tranny and engine. There is a small plastic shield that covers the flywheel and it was protruding from there. I’m not expert, but pieces of metal usually ain’t too good.

Update. After pulling the tranny I discovered the problem, and after a new clutch disc it's all better now. Here are pics showing the carnage. You can see one of the springs became unseated in the clutch disc when the metal around it broke. It then proceeded top carve a nice groove aroud the inner edge of the aluminum flywheel thus the metal shavings I saw at CMP.
