Yes, he was... thanks for bringing that up. IT usually takes him a few days to process the pics he's got. And I think we'll have some pics from CMP unlike any before. Brian Smith gave us extreme leeway in getting Mark out to various locations around the track... very unlike Mickey and past events.

I can't wait to see what he's come up with! I'm pretty sure he was able to get out on just about every worker station at some point during the weekend.

I'll see if I can't get a couple samples shortly

Well I only made it for the Friday entertainment with Asphalt Ventures.

Stacy - Thanks. Hope you came out ahead on the deal and will continue with this option. I got about the same amount of track time I would get with Chin when I run their events. Please stick with the more open format.

Mark - Thanks for doing the Instructor/Mentor thing with me. That was quite educational and fun. Learning CMP at the same time just made it more of a challenge.

It was fun even though it was just down right hotter-n-hades out there. First time at CMP. My initial impression is that if the grip was a bit better and the back section was updated it would be more fun. I was fighting grip issues front and rear. Sometimes over driving the tires and sometimes they were simply too hot. Had to cut sessions short. The track is definitely a technical challenge. A bit too much on gas-brake-gas-brake in a short time. I can see why it eats pads and rotors. I'm still playing around with how I really want to do the carousel. Never did feel good about that. T8 and T10 (kink) are obviously plain fun and pretty much a test of nerves. I found the track to be a bit narrow in some places that just doesn't make sense. The gators are ridiculous. Like Vincent said, they serve no purpose other than screwing up suspensions.

The facilities are fine for what the track is. Comparing them to VIR isn't fair. Places like VIR and RA are road race circuits. Places like CMP and RR are more like training circuits. The facilities and how clean the pit layout is, how clean the rest rooms and grounds are is much better than RR.

I'll do this track once a year because it forces me to do something different. It's not an easy track and has some different element designs that I need to work with. For the long trip I think I would rather drive the extra hour or so and go to Road Atlanta.

Sorry to hear about all the mechanical issues guys. Other than a slightly soft pedal late in the day and shitty grip on the tires the Z06 ran fine.

Note on tires: Hoosier GrandAm Rolex GT tires fall off quick. I think they have about 1-2 hours of track time in them where they are pretty good. They're an endurance tire so they are harder and do wear pretty good. Grip is not as good as a Hoosier R6 ever. Even if they were discounted at almost half price. I don't think I'll buy them again.

CMP is hard on the brakes.
Metal to metal on rear pads.
Front rotors warped.

Go. Me.

What pads are you running?

Ferodo 2500s. On the front.
OEM (ATE) on the rear.

Are going back with the Ferodo's ? I have been running Carbotech whatever the entry level track pad is. I really can't remember how many track days they have lasted, quite a few anyway.

I used some Mintex cheapies on the rear in March at South, they were basically new and went to the metal by the end of the weekend.

Of course Vincent drove your car some, he might have worn them out!

Interesting. Do rear brakes typically wear fast on a tracked Mini? I run the el-cheapo NAPA pads in the rear ($24) and they last about 3 events and a few thousand street miles.

Hey now, I only drove it for one session. I didn't brake as hard as I would in my car because

a) it wouldn't do it.
b) it wasn't my car
c) the pedal travels too far for me to H-T.

d) you were too busy blocking me.

i think i cooked the hawk blues i had on the rear. 8-10 events at least i would think. not sure about the PFC's on the front. this would be their fourth event.

Fact: It is 5 degrees warmer today in Kershaw than it was on Sunday.

I want NONE of that....

At the Alfa event I actually choose not to change to me Carbotechs on the rear because you had told me this (see you are the older brother I never had!) I am guessing they only had 6k on them I guess these were really soft because I had pull over in Durham and find out what was making noise in the rear.

On the other hand, the carbotech's look like they have had very little wear on the rear. The fronts are almost completely gone now and the rear look almost like new with only 2 less track days on them.

Nah. I'm back to OEM on all four corners. Can't beat the price. :P
That and I'm done with DEs for the season. The rest of the pennies are in the Topeka fund:

Another set of 710s
A set of Kumho street tires for rains that I'll drive out there on.
Food.
Gas.
Lodging.
Video tape.

For next year's HPDE fun, I'll probably move to a set of dedicated rotors and pads.

I appreciate all the effort you guys put in to make the events go so well. This was my first time on this track, very technical, really had to slow down at some corners to get around it quickly.

Had a great time. :D

Great News:

1) We have verbal agreemnenbt to move CMP date to one of
the last two weekends in JUNE 2008!

This will be a three day event and include an Instructor Clinic & Lapping Day.

2) CMP is under new managemnt with a new five year business plan approved by their board of directors.

Immediate plans ( i.e. next season)
-----------------------------------------
1) re-configuration of the last three 90 degree turns to fix what
everone does not like about CMP.
2) paving all the infield access roads including a 10 foot strip of
concrete to park your race car on.
3) New timming tower (almost completed)
4) covered garages

Intermediate plans (two to three years):
---------------------------------------------
1) kart track.
2) skid plad.
3) re-surfacing the track

Long Range Plans ( three to five years):
----------------------------------------------
1) Track expansion to 3+ miles with ability to run
in two seperate configurations. This would use the forest area
ajacent to where the "kink" is now. You would go left at the
kink into some sort of "Watkins Glen boot" section, then re-join
the track after the Kink.

Condo's are not a high priority in the proposed plan.

That's better?!?! It can totally be 100+ there in late June.

What about the Roebling date on the 2nd weekend in June?
