Ok, be realistic in your opinions and just don't get happy spending my money. I can buy the salvage on my car for 3k (they are paying me 17k plus grapics on the new one.) The car is hit HARD in the rear. rear hatch will have to be screwed down just to keep the rain from getting in it. The front seats are worthless, except for air bags.

Should I buy this? I am getting another 02 same color. I guess I could recoup 600 if the the shift kit, sway bar, and pulley are ok.

Thanks!

Shell is toast (roof buckled and firewall moved, right?). You're replacing it with an almost new car so you don't need any spares.

Move on. Spend your time selling more insurance, not as a used mini parts salesman.

EDIT - If you want to work on your karma, offer the car for $3k on the mini forums as a favor to anyone who needs all the hard parts on the car. Just be a "broker". If you want to try to make a few bucks easy, offer the car for $4k.

I know the engine isn't damaged, but offset. How many miles are on it? You could pull the engine/tranny and use it as a spare and sell off all the rest and likely make money on the deal. Every little switch, interior panel, the good seat, carpet, rear seat, mirrors... Well, the list goes on and on, but Ebay is your friend. - AB

Getting back the 600 from the parts you've put in it, gives the real cost of salvage a bump down to $2400. That leaves you with a spare engine (complete), front suspension, body panels, and misc interior equipment. Your tracking the car your buying I'm sure.... so in the event of an off that ends in a tire wall or Armco would these parts be handy! Thats the question you have to answer for yourself. You deal in insurance, you decide.
If my Vette were rearended and I could recoup it at the price you have been quoted I'd do it in a heartbeat at twice the price. Just my opinion Cline

1. Buy it back
2. Tow it to my house
3. Let me part it out
4. I'll split anything over 3k with you 50/50

You left out the divorced part. You'll have to move in with Cline if you bring ANOTHER junk car home.

Ohh, neighbors LOVE when you part out cars in your yard!! :)

Seriously, it's a MAJOR consideration unless you live somewhere where you can hide the car, or your neighbors are so far away they don't care.

You CAN make $$$ parting out a car like that, BUT it can also be a major PITA. It will typically go like this: you'll sell a couple of items right away and make decent $$ on them, then there will be a lull for a while, then you'll get to the point where it really slows down and you'll wonder what the hell you're gonna do with the rest of the car. Also, once you sell a door off the car, you need to cover the hole so the interior doesn't get trashed. You'll also get lowballed to death on stuff, and you'll get inundated with requests for pictures and descriptions of stuff, along with shipping cost quotes- then you'll never hear from these "buyers" again. Then there are the "buyers" who complain about the stuff you send them- even if it's in perfect condition, or the stuff that gets damaged or lost in shipping. Oh, the possibilities are endless!! :)

Preach it brotha!!!

I ran into these same problems when I parted out my 1st CRX. I tried to mostly do it on Honda-Tech. Big Mistake! Ebay takes a lot of the headache out of it. Yeah, you have to pay ebay, but its worth the reduced hassle.

What are the wheels worth? Seems like that would be a nice chunk of change or at least be nice to have as spares...track wheels.

The wheels I put on it are my track wheels, which were the original 16 wheels. I prefer the 17 wheel for looks and the replacement I have bought has 16's as well, white at that, yuck!

The mini world is so queer, these people spend so much on after market stuff that there is a lot of oem stuff (like wheels) out there for nothing.

I did retain the salvage. I am either going to resale it whole of the firm of H&H Auto Dismantling will be opening soon in the up and coming metropolis of Grimesland NC. Kind of fitting Grimesland is where I have almost gotten killed twice this year!

I'd love to see the look on Shannon's face when a smushed blue MINI shows up at the new house.
