Ok, too dizzy to ride motorcycle, wrist and neck hurts so golf sucks, no car to work on so I am stuck surfing the internet and cruising car lots. This being Greenville, not a lot of options. ONly thing I looked at that interested me was a 2005 350z. with Brembo's. Anybody know much about tracking them? Good? Bad? Expensive on brakes and tires? Any body seen a set up for a trailer hitch for one?

Cline, i only offer this as i know someone will call me on it. i hear the brakes really need some improvement. i think the Brembo's were offered as a factory upgrade but still not quite up to the job.

on a side note however, the wife has said for quite some time now that she might like to have a 350Z. of course she has also considered the pontiac vibe, saturn hybrids and some freakin oldsmobile suv crap thing.

I corresponded with NASA instructor Dan Unkefer who got an '05. He likes the car a great deal and I was even surprised, but he claims the brembo brakes work better than any other system he's had.

He mentioned the car is compliant and handles very neutrally as it builds speed in corners. You can induce over-steer with the throttle when he feels a bit of understeer. He had not smoked the brakes at all - after 10 or so track sessions.

Now, that said I too am considering a 350Z, but an RX-8 though down on power seems more useful, costs less, great breakes, weighs less and it handles better. I'm still undecided.

Bull, there are TONS of options if you wanna truck or SUV!

The used car place at the corner of G'ville and Memorial had a sweet Ferrari the last time I went by. I think it was a 355.

As for at 350z tech, you might wanna post something over at

http://www.trianglezclub.com/

They are our partners with the track program, so you have seen most of them before. Hell if you actually owned a Z car, they might even elect you president ;)

OK... back on topic :)

We've had many guys track the 350Z ... almost all of them love it ... right up until the point where they realize they want to racing, but don't want to strip down and cage out a 30k car. That's when they usually sell it and buy an E36 M3 :(

We still have one guy who regularly tracks his, and that's Glenn Mead, I can send you his contact info if you'd like.

It's still relatively heavy for its size... I think the low numbers I've seen for the car has been in the 3200lb range.

TONS of aftermarket support, including lots of NA upgrades (good for close to 320 rwhp and forced induction mods as wild as your imagination and bank account will allow.

Brembos are good, but most opt for a StopTech kit when they really get serious and start adding sticky rubber. Once sticky rubber is added, pad knock-back becomes an issue (weak hubs evidently).

"Base" models do not have LSD, all others do.

Extremely capable track and AutoX car out of the box... I have no clue how competitive it actually is though.

I'm sure there are plenty of TZC guys that would let you take their car for a ride at speed at the next event or AutoCross

Super nice guy, he was in my run group at South with Alfa Club. I would definitely talk with him. I think he was burning brakes up at an alarming pace, but what doesnt with that power and weight?

I hear StopTech rotors are pretty darn expensive. The guy running that really fast Civic at the ITR event had their kit with 2-pc rotors. I told him my rotors were expensive at $160 each and he said that's nothing as his were $300 each from Stoptech.

Didn't the former 300ZX have brake issues as well? Didn't Nissan get the memo from that? Fast heavy car needs bigger better brakes.

BTW Cline, big brakes are not that difficult if you don't mind doing a little research and little grinding like I did.
