Ok, I know, I’m a day late on the final recap and results. I’m sorry. I had rally crossing to do. I didn’t do so hot this time, posting one DNF and grabbing several cones. I Just kind of drove like dog doo!! I did have fun though!!
Now for what you came here for. Adam and Peter arrived back in South Bend, Indiana at about 7:00 PM Friday night. Plenty of time for a shower, dinner and a good night’s sleep. The next morning they got out to the Tire Rack site for the final event of One Lap, the
Dry Skid Pad. Due to their great performance they got to run towards the end as they ran in reverse order today.
Peter was driving the car today and pulled a very impressive
0.984 Gs!!! This was good enough for
2nd place in class. The
BMW M Coupe of Woody Hair and Mark Donohue Williams eeked them out with a
0.992 G Run. There were several cars that pulled over 1 G. They were both of the Vipers, a couple of Corvettes, the DaVia Twin Turbo 911, the Ultima GTR, the Rankins Subaru Sti, the Supra, an S2000 and amazingly, one of the SRT-4!! The worse cars on the Dry Skid Pad were the Mustang Shelby GT500 (0.701 G), the Geo Metro (0.681 G), and the Newmar Dutchman RV (0.275 G). The best was the
Corcoran Z06 pulling an amazing 1.074 Gs!! Pretty darn impressive considering this was on DOT legal tires!!!
Today’s event solidified the overall results. After almost 4,000 miles of driving, 16 timed track events, and countless meals at convience stores,
Adam and Peter finished their One Lap of America adventure in
1st place in SSGT1 Small Bore and
16th place overall!!! Way to go guys!! Congratulations!!!!! First place overall once again went to Mark DaVia and Drew Wikstrom in the Twin Turbo 911. This is their 4th overall win in a row!!
So what did we learn over the past week? Well, reliability is key. While a 1000hp Twin Turbo Viper is wicked cool and a Noble M400 makes a great track car, they just can’t beat a good reliable car. Yes the BMW M3 did have one failure, but it was fixed relatively quick, and if they would have known before hand that it was a weak part, they could have had one in the tool box already.
I really did have a good time writing about this over the past week and I hope you had fun reading it. I REALLY hope to be a participant in One Lap next year, not just the communications person.
