Usually I hear about these things, but this one slipped by me somehow. Gary took his final checkered flag sometime back in December. You may remember he instructed with us a few times, driving a silver Focus SVT. I personally hadn't seen Gary at the track in quite some time, and hadn't talked to him on the phone for well over a year (he was a Carbotech customer). I'll remember Gary's interesting conversation and genuine enthusiasm for the sport.

"Just got the news today. Don't know how it happened or exactly when. But I did speak to him about 1 month or 2 ago. Mentioned he wasn't feeling right and wasn't going to be racing in 2007. I know he was selling his trailer. I think he even had surgery. But I didn't know he was this ill. "
From the NASA-MA site:

"NASA Instructor and time trialer, Gary Kole, passed away in his sleep in mid December. His racing career dates back to the late 70's and he also spent much of his youth as a musician, opening for rock superstars such as Queen. He was a dedicated NASA instructor since 2003 and could be recognized most recently in his silver SVT Ford Focus. He will be missed by NASA and all who knew him. "
