It's not clear to me if this tire replaces the RA-1 or not. Also, it appears to have been available for awhile in the Japan market, but there are a lot of sizes that are marked "to be available soon".

Does anybody know the story on the R888?

I recently read a post on miata.net about this tire. From what I've gathered, the R888 is only certified for road use in europe and is not DOT approved for the US, so don't expect to see it anytime soon.
