Kevin:

I'll send you a draft copy of the Tech Guide has it has photos of
both styles. The point is you need to be there when they do the
install and trial fit both types or find existing cars in the club that
you can sit in. Actually as a Track Events Team member you can
log onto the Yahoo account that Ashraf set up and view the Tech Guilde
from there. I've been really pushing to get this published and gave
next week as the deadline.

My best advise is to make sure there is nothing within at least 6 inches of
the back and side of your head and use the good SFI/FIA high density
padding in those areas. Bethania has had these custom molded to fit
their roll bars . I don't know the cost but from both astetics and safety
that would be the way to go.

The harness install can only be evaluated with you sitting in the car
in your normal driving position. YOu need to get the SCCA GCR but
for now you can use the diagrams in the Tech Guilde and the instructions
that come from Williams.

Allright,

Got a Hard Dog Hard Core in the Miata. Went to Bethania Garage (in my home town) before Christmas and Tom Beroth helped me choose between the Standard and Hard Top Hard Cores. Performed the install here at the house over the past couple of days.

Now I'm trying to install the harnesses. I am looking for 7/16-20 eyebolts that fit the stock weldnuts in the car. Eyebolts sold by harness vendors are 3/8. This is proving to be a pain. Any suggestions?

By the way, what's the status on the broom stick rule? I believe I read somewhere that the SCCA was thinking of reducing it to 1" clearance. I've got that now. It would suck to trim the foam from the seat bottoms just to have the current 2" clearance reduced to 1".

Thanks in advance for assistance provided.

Instead of snap in belt ends use bolt in plates and a spacer or two so they sit right. Then all you need are the bolts.

FWIW, in both my '90 and '96 Miatae, the standard 7/16"-20 thread eyebolts sold with the harnesses fit exactly into the original seat belt holes.

Just gotta mention E30 BMW's. I paid $2,700 for my 1987 325is at Atlantic Auto Exchange, put $1,200 in Ground Control springs shocks/struts and camber plates and I can "hang" pretty well. I could use new busings on just about everything, and I did replace the front control arms/ball joints, but this car has been daily transportation for 2 years and has done more than 15 track events. These cars are not that hard to find, especially if you are willing to pay a little more for a newer model. If you decide to go shopping for one, check out Mike Whitney's web page regarding the various years and features.

Thanks, Charlie - I've already been through Mike's pages. I've driven his car a few times, too, which is why the E30 is currently at the top of the list!
