Wise man.

Very wise man. Ask Mitch if he can do it. He's been there, tried that, and lived to tell about it.

I'm in a four wheel drift AFTER I brush the brakes. Flat-footed, no way I'd make it.

Yeah, you need to be turning in very early and have a lot of nuts. - AB

I agree, this weekend I don't think there was any chance of me making it through there without brushing the brakes. Although remember I am driving the slo-te-ge, which is not a fast car. I am flat foot from mid-turn four until that left hander after the esses. Even being flat footed through that whole section, I am still only going 95ish MPH. I then would brush my brakes and scrub off a little speed and settle the front end to make the left. The only reason I feel like I could go through that without a brush is that I never tracked out all of the way to the right side, I still would have 6-8 feet on my right side without any trouble or sliding at all.

I was not (and continue to still not) be brave enough to try it, but I do think someone with more skill could take my car through that corner much faster than I am willing to attempt. Maybe not flat, but probably with only a lift.

adamb <--- not crazy enough to try it and my ego isn't big enough for me to try to carry 5 more MPH through that corner either.

Were you on race rubber? I was on Falken RT-615s and sliding almost to the RH gator, doing about the same speed as you.

Yes -- I was on 710s.

Nice. With that grip I think I'd have been a little "braver". BTW, a guy following me an M3 thru hogpen said I'm lifting the RR wheel!

Hogpen is fun, isn't it? :) I have never had as much fun on track as I did driving from roller coaster all the way through the front straight. That section flows so well and man, you can FLY through hogpen. I still probably early apex that a bit too much, and could carry more speed if I would wait a couple of feet longer before turning in for 17, but it is a blast no matter how you get through there.

Also, I couldn't believe how gentle the track was on my 710s. The tires look great even after 2 hours of track time on them.

Hogpen isn't that fun to me, maybe because I don't have the grip to get thru there "flying". The most fun is turn three and the uphill esses in my car. I'd catch Vettes and other fast cars in those sections. Full course is a blast because I can brake as late as the "arrow" before entering the roller coaster. 8) Vette brakes rock!

yes Corvette brakes rock. however the trick is to go fast enough to actually use them to their full potential. my last session sunday i finally reached the point where i was out braking some of the other Z06 s in my group.

the Z06 turns in more precisely, and quicker i might add, than the 328is. however the Z06 is way more difficult to drive fast on the track. i spent the weekend pointing by as i played the classic "damn Corvette holding up the Miata" scenario. the event was corvette top heavy IMO.

to quote Vincent "had i been driving the bmw i would have kicked my own ass" my instructor was great (although he did have a bout of motion sickness) and helped me with the line in regards to the additional HP.

while i never have thought of myself as smooth on the track, the Z06 made it quite obvious i was nowhere near smooth and it did it exponentially. i did however learn the meaning of modulation in braking and acceleration. back to the garage for now, but the Corvette will see more track time someday.

in regards to CarGuys in general, not the worst organization to run with, but room for improvement. were i a green student i wonder how i would have enjoyed the entire weekend. and in the sunday morning green & yellow drivers meeting we were shown a crash tape. while this reminds me of drivers ed in high school i don't see it being anymore effective now than it was back then. different strokes i guess.

There ought to be a prize for making your instructor puke. I wish I could have made my last instructor!

while i got the ball rolling i was not the sole reason for his discomfort. he had back to back students and his green student was driving a race prepped doors welded shut GTI. so she may have contributed also.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention the green student in a brand new yellow C6 (first event EVAR) who spun entering the uphill esses...at 110MPH she said. Steve and I doubt that MPH figure, but I saw the in-car video and she entered full track left ...BAD...then proceeded to drop a wheel over the left side gator.

After she returned to the pavement (and wiped the sh*t out of her seat) she proceeded back to the pits, at a reduced pace of course. While doing so, she had a car behind her flash his lights wanting to pass. No black flag for him either. :?

To her credit she was right back out there the next session, though she seemed just a *bit* slower.

 I apologize, I meant my last ASSIGNED instructor. Not Patrice who rescued me!

In regards the earlier discussion of taking T10 'flat out' or not... and tracking out all the way....

I feel very comfortable in stating unequivocally that under normal conditions (i.e. no oil or other issues with traction) you will find plenty of grip all the way out, and the curb will do an excellent job of catching ya if ya find ya need a tad 'extra'.... ;)

If you ain't getting to within at least a foot of the curb you're leaving a lot on the table...

OCTJMO, ICBW...
