I couldn't find this listed on Coco's site. Am I blind or is it not listed.

How much do they charge and track time do you get? Do they use 'guest' Instructors?

Anybody else going up to SP to run Shenandoah that weekend. Glenn and I will be heading out for there Fri. afternoon. Still looking for anybody who'd like to go along for the ride and all the purdy fall scenery.

Hey Vincent -- I noticed that the CarGuys website says that this event is full. I hope they are accomodating you and not going to say sorry, you registered too late.

I would call them 10 minutes after I faxed it to confirm. It never hurts to be the squeeky wheel with them. :)

I just got a fax welcoming to the event so one would assume I'm in.

Their price is $475 for a two day event, but THSCC members get a $100 discount. I'm not sure if they use guest instructors or not. Mark V. is one of their instructors so I'm sure he could tell you.

Car Guys has to be the worst outfit when it comes to registration, responding to phone calls, etc. I tried last year and earlier this year to get in touch with them several times. I never received a return phone call. I hope their events run better than they run their business...

Maybe I should have done something to spark their interest? Like putting "Ferrari 460" as my car. That has more bling than "Chevy Cavalier" and may prompt them to call quicker.

LOL - yeah, I agree. I don't think my listing of Mazda Slo-te-ge inspired much enthusiasm from them either.

I'd have to go along with that. I sent 'um a couple emails, never got a reply..... not even a 'go away', 'quit bugg'n us', 'go to h*ll'.... nothing.

You'd think that of ALL the organizations that put these events on, one that was in the BUSINESS would be the quickest and most responsive to queries. but that's the trouble with most businesses in this dang country any more, they seem to do jes fine no matter how they treat folks. No matter how many they run off there's always plenty more to be had. Absolutely amazing, then again perhaps not when you consider the buying habits of most 'mericans these days. Any ol thing will do, at any ol price..... here, take my money and give me a tote sack fulla crap, yeah that's jes fine.....

Sheeeshhh.....

I think these guys are also racers and run somewhere. Next time you register. Don't worry about the car. In the comments just put. "I'm an investor and I'm looking to sponsor a team 100% for the whole season, are you guys interested?"

Think that might spark up a phone call

Here’s my summary of the event this past weekend.

Car Guys' organizational skills suck….period. All the people running the show were there Friday, but no registration or tech until Saturday morning. Imagine 120 cars to be teched in 1 hour. Since tech was 7:00 to 8:00, most of us were sitting in that line even if you were there early. During this same time ONE person is doing registration. Guess how long that line was for 120 people! The student meeting for the White Group was at 8:15, but I was standing in the registration line at this time along with many others. Luckily Aryan came out and pulled us out of line into the meeting.

So after the registration and tech fiasco, we finally get our first session on track. One lap, standing yellow flag, next lap standing yellow flag (track was very cold so this was good), next lap let’s roll…cool. We got one half of a hot lap then another standing yellow flag. Next lap, same thing, next lap, ditto. Nothing is wrong, so I’m driving around at 60 MPH and getting pissed. After the 5th lap I pitted. I figured I could drive for free at 70 MPH on my way home.

We were told later that some people were passing on the wrong side so we were all penalized because of it. Guess how many people were REALLY pissed about that! We asked if those people were black-flagged and they said no. Hmmm, seems that would have been the proper way to handle it to me.

Session number two was w/o incident so we all had a good time. People were still passing on the wrong side (back straight) but again these people were not black-flagged. :? I was given several signals on the wrong side, but didn’t take them because I didn’t want to get black-flagged. Session number three was about the same.

Session number four was cut short due to a full race prepared Ferrari losing it’s gear box and parking right outside pit out. We got a black flag all and we came in w/o incident while the Italian job was towed in. I hate to say it, but it was good riddance. That guy was up my a** from turn 1 to turn 6 even after I gave him the courtesy wave. I spoke to him afterwards about it and he just blew me off.

Sunday morning the green and yellow groups had to hit the tech line AGAIN at 7:00. Luckily it was decided the white group could be teched after our last Saturday session and avoid the line.

All of us in the white group received a tongue lashing in the driver’s meeting for our antics of session number one the previous day. At least we were given an extra 15 mins for the time lost due to the Ferrari’s failure so we were all very happy about that. A 45 min session is pretty long though, and I wouldn’t really want to go any longer after driving it.

All of our sessions in the white group on Sunday went very well. No problems with passing, signals, or really anything. I missed one session due to a power steering leak, but patched it up thanks to one of the people with Bowie Jr. giving me a piece of hose. :D

I talked to Bowie Jr. and told him I was not impressed. He replied “You weren’t impressed with the non-THSCC way of doing things?” Exactly. I so look forward to Rockingham where I know thing will run smoothly. Hope to see you guys there.

PS.

Adam, I watched some of your last session on Sunday.
You were really looking good in turn four. Not the easiest
one to get right in a FWD car. Good job man.

I had a good time at this event this weekend. This was the first time I had the protege on the track and it behaved wonderfully. The car flies through the uphill esses, rotates nicely and the entrance to the roller coaster, brakes with no complaint at the end of the front straight and even allows me time to read the newspaper on the back straight. :)

This was also my first time driving VIR. It is a great track! I can't wait to do it again.

I also got my first look at my ride for One Lap of America. The work that bimmerworld did on it looks great. I will get my first chance behind the wheel of the car soon and I can't wait. It looks like it will be quick.

Thanks Vincent. Having never driven the track before, nor a front wheel drive car on track before, it took me a couple of sessions, but I think I figured it out fairly well. I still wasn't brave enough to do the blind left hander at the end of the uphill esses without at least a brush of the brakes.
