Donnie, I never disagreed with your observations. All I have said is that your conclusions are hard to believe in the absense of other information.

I'm just a skeptic. I was hoping someone might be able to shed some more light on what really happens.

That's to be expected. As Graham said, the VSS isn't lying...it's just the speedo output from the ECU that's lying. We all know it's lying, the question is by what algorithm is it lying.

just a note, my wheel speed numbers are being pulled directly from a speed sensor reading off the back side of my wheel studs, so the ecu (in my case) has no bearing on my wheel speed readings...all i have to do is tell the Stack system how many "hits" it will get per revolution of the wheel and the diameter of my tires...

Well, I know of a stock WRX that was reportedly exceeding 130 on Full Course, so high 140's sounded very reasonable to me for an STi. The person who told me the speed for a stock STi was Jon Krolewicz, and I would trust what he said unlessl I could personally prove him wrong... I guess I'll find out firsthand in a few months, unless I sell mine before then or something bad happens to it. :D

i can't say for sure its not correct (because i simply dont know for sure), but it just seems unlikely that a "stockish" sti can hit high 140's at vir...if a stock wrx can "exceed 130", it takes a LOT more hp to get to high 140's vs ~130 mph, seemingly more than the hp difference between a stock wrx and a stock sti...

high 140's at vir seems very unlikely for a ~300 crank hp street car that weights 3300+ lbs without driver...c5 z06's hit mid 140's with 100 more hp and a couple hundred less pounds, i cant imagine a stock sti being as fast or faster than a c5 z06...

Right. I'm not arguing that. I'm saying that your VSS and your wheel speed sensors *should* read the same thing, barring wheelspin and issues related to turning (outside going further than inside wheels, etc). All I'm saying is that past that, your speedo is getting its data from the ECU, and the ECU is munging *that* data somewhat that it gets from the VSS.

Hmm, wonder if I can easily register both my STi and my race car for the VIR member day this Friday and see what an STi can do (at least on streets), assuming we get done what we need to get done on the race car. Well, I say that, but I doubt they let uncaged cars run flat out like that at member days for some reason. Oh, my STi is like 3215 without driver, IIRC. Still, I'm skeptical of the 140 number as well.
