What brake fluid is everyone using on track. Has anyone ever tried the Ate Super Blue, can it be bought locally.

I have been using the Ford HD (previously known as Motorsport) but recent information has shown that it has been reformulated with a dry boiling point of 500° versus the previous 550°. I have used the ATE fluid and have no complaints except that the Ford stuff worked just as well, was available for less money and comes in smaller containers. Not sure if I will try the new Ford stuff or not.

You could always take out another mortgage and run ≈$70/liter Castrol $RF.

I am running the ATE Blue since about 10 yrs. I didn't have any issues with it.

Ate Super blue is availble at THoff AFAIK, and I'm pretty sure Black Forest has it (Adam??).

I've used a few different types/brands on track- Castrol LMA, Valvoline Synthetic are both readily available and seem to work well. The only brake fluid related problems I've ever seen on track were due to the owner having old fluid in there that was contaminated with water. I think you're better off with fresh cheap fluid than you are with older fluid that has absorbed water. I don't have the data handy, but I recall reading a report that brake fluid absorbs water VERY quickly, not just in an open bottle, but in a cars braking system- and that it only takes a small amount of water to greatly decrease the boiling point. For this reason, I generally compare WET boiling points much more than DRY.

Previous discussion about ATE Blue and Gold.

http://www.thsccforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=3023

Another discussion. This one goes into the diff (if any other than color) between ATE Blue and Gold.

http://www.thsccforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=3435

I am still looking for someone to show evidence that Blue and Gold and not the same other than color and that Blue is DOT approved. I believe I read somewhere that Gold can't be DOT approved due to its color.

AP Racing and Motul 600 are also good ones... though not sure if either is available local.

I ran the Motul 600 in my 3800lb, Automatic 300zx for two seasons and didn't have any issues of any sort.

I think the opposite is true. The blue is not DOT approvable because of color. Brake fluids are in general gold.

If you want to know, call WorldPac or other large ATE distributor and ask them to send you the MSDS for each one. They have to by law. If the fluids share the same MSDS, I would think they would have to be the same.

Sorry, got that backwards. :) Knew it was a color issue. I THINK, but am not sure that someone has looked in the MSDS. But I think it doesn't list boiling points, longevity, etc. Issues that Adam says makes them diff.

If they have different boiling points or hygroscopicity( ) then the composition would have to be different and the MSDS must reflect this.

EDIT

Super Blue MSDS
Type 200 MSDS

Rich, I looked at the MSDS and while no expert, they look to be nearly identical. There is one or two differences and those are when one sheet mentions a measurement (such as Relative vapour density) that the other sheet doesn't have. But otherwise they list the same boiling point (280 C) which I assume is a dry point.

Also, I re-read one of the other threads and someone had received a reply back from Continental Teves and they said that Blue and Gold are the same other than color.

If anyone needs brake fluid, I can get anything here in Charlotte. Motul 600, Ford HD, ATE, AP Racing, etc.

Having a 4 race shops within 5 miles of the house makes life very easy. - AB

Well Cline I'll try to answer your question :)

ATE Typ 200 for at least the last 5 years, in everything. Changed more often on track cars. Locally available (Black Forest) or mail order from lots of places. I stopped using Blue once I discovered ATE 200, because the blue was staining everything blue over time -- including the reservoir, which makes it impossible to see the level.

ATE 200 would do great in your car, since it is German :)

What kind of pricing? With the Ford HD down to 500°, I might be interested in some others, although I have no idea. At $2.50 for a 12oz bottle when bought in case quantities, it is hard give it up.
