The message would be "Want to do touring laps? You gotta go find an instructor who is willing to come along with you"
Since I am an instructor, can't I just find myself?

I see your point, but at the same time, I think that putting another responsibility on the plate of the instructors is a bad idea.

Don't know if Mark approved the ad but he had a hand in it......

For touring laps sounds like we might not have had a pace car? If not we should probably go back to that.

Cline, I hope that when you came in from touring laps you let someone know who was "pushing" you. They needed to be reminded what touring laps are for. I may have been tempted to stop, on the front straight, gotten out of the car and reminded them right then. But that's just me:)

I'm betting we will continue touring laps but will more clearly define whatthey are for and the behavior that is acceptable and a suitable penalty (explusion from the event if you are a visitor and miss a session if you are a student??) will be given out.

But lets not let this stupidity overshadow this fine event!

Looks like Mark answered with his driving.
1:49 on North is pretty respectable in a 325.
Drove the wheels off the car. Knocked off 12 sec. from Sat. to Sunday! 8)

Im pretty damn sure he is. He was laughing so hard about it on Sunday. Nothing to worry about.

Great event! I was quite puckered during Saturday's first heat in the rain. Learning a new course in the rain with a new to you car is quite intimidating. Especially on flipped Azenis Sports (which suck in the wet). Once the pavement dried out, it was a blast.

By the middle of Sunday, I was having quite a hoot with the crossover. Particularly with the Left Hand "Stevie Wonder" curve in the middle. I was a little gun shy of it through Sat, but by mid Sun, I was able to go into it much more agressively. I ended up hitting the rev limiter in third(~83 MPH) about 60 feet from the Roller Coaster braking zone every lap in the TT. I also got MUCH more comfortable with higher speed rotations in Turn 3 thanks to Chris Long. Candidate Instructor Chris Long gets thumbs up in my book!

I'd like to see what my lap times from Sunday's TT were, prior to my throttle cable letting go. Please PM me if you have them.

Excellent job THSCC/TZC staff!! I had a blast this weekend. Event ran very well and the staff adjusted very quickly to situations as they happened. The plastic sleeve with the schedule, track map, and driver info card is a very nice touch folks! Don't ever drop that feature.

VIR definetely has the nicest facilities I have seen so far. Better than RA and light years ahead of RR. While RA is still my favorite course so far running VIR-N is fun and challenging. I really liked the Esses and the Stevie Wonders. Way too much fun. And roller coaster is a rush to come down and out of.

Like Kevin, Saturday morning was, eh, interesting... First time at VIR and first time in the rain. Almost like driving on packed snow. I vaguely remembered those days until I made my first few turns. Then it all came back to me in a hurry. Gentle inputs!!! My other first was dropping 2 wheels off on drivers side coming into T1 too hot. I learned a lot more this weekend with the new challenges and I'm actually glad I got a session in the wet to experience it. Can't say I'd want to do it that often. But it is good to know the difference.

I'm sorry to hear about the Parade Lap issue. When I heard it over the intercom it sounded like something bad had happened. That is a shame.

Graham

Hey everyone... I wanna send out a big thanks for all of YOU who came out, had fun, BEHAVED (LOL) and generally made our lives easier.

As far as the touring laps go... no decision has been made (nor will be made anytime soon) with regard to the future of touring laps. Its a pretty safe bet that we won't do away with them altogether, but we are weighing our options in terms of how they are run. Keep the suggestions coming, please. Oh yeah... btw... in the Maxima's guy's defense, he ended up calling Mark (he's a member... shhhhh) and apologizing profusely. Sounds like a casualty of being pushed... and the witness I talked to said he was being pushed by a Ferrarri. I had left by that point, so I can't shed any further light on the subject.

I really hate that my weekend was so screwed up with fighting the flu bug Thursday and Friday, not even sure I was gonna make it up there until late Friday evening... missing my rain session because I was not feeling well... then having to leave after only one session on Sunday cause I'm such a good husband (I gave Susan what I had before I left).

Even though I only got in three sessions... they were the best three sessions I've had on track in the last two years almost. I can certainly see why many people like North Course over all the other circuits... I'm almost a believer myself. We are VERY lucky to have had someone like Jean Wilkins on the staff looking out for us. Lets hope we can keep this event going for a long time.

Oh yeah... pics... F & S said they would have the group galleries up no later than Friday... you can email them and request your personal gallery anytime - they are trying to set those up first. In the meantime, I've uploaded some to the Triangle Z Club's SmugMug site: http://trianglezclub.smugmug.com/gallery/1345981
Feel free to browse around... no password necessary.

Can someone give me a quick description on how touring laps work today?

If I wanted to participate, do I just show up or sign up in advance? Pay some nominal fee or free (first come, first serve)?

Right now, I am NOT going to take the Civic to a Track school, etc. as the bank owns part of it and it is my daily driver. But it might be fun to watch a HPDE and participate in the touring laps.

Parade laps are free, unless you spin out during yours. Then you are drawn and quatered in the paddock area as your penalty.

Ohhh and I highly recomend not taking out a car exactly like yours with 60 more whp. It makes you think VERY evil thoughts.
