I'd buy a pic of a Supra passing Rich, then get the guy to autograph it.

Please tell me that you have an Accusump.

Just because I've swapped out a blown Contour engine doesn't mean that I want to offer to help do another one.

No Accusump at this point although I use the "poor man's Accusump" (3/4 qt over full on oil). Car came cheap with high miles so I'll probably be doing something with the engine in the future, probably a hybrid 3.0L like yours. Glad to hear it's working again and that you got a worthwhile performance bump. Nice write up you did on the thread on Contour.org

btw was that the blue genIII RX7 with the dual exhausts, John?

I don't know about dual exhaust, but i was the late model (3rd gen) RX7 w/ the #93 on my side in big, homemade magnetic tape numbers. And no, i don't have dual exhaust...perhaps you're thinking of a 2nd gen TII? But i do have lots of other stuff, which is probably why i was sliding around so much in the rain. I had even detuned the car to 10lb of boost, but i probably would have been better off without any turbos in the first place. Couldn't even hardly get to half throttle except when i got into the straights.

I guess it just seemed slick to me because 1) i've never tried track driving in the rain, 2) i'm really paranoid about my car, and 3) last time i was on track was the first time i've ever been on track and i was absolutely amazed at what my car could do. Even so, i found myself behind a train of about 6 cars or so. Had to pit in to get some room to go...and then found out it was the last lap anyway. Talk about timing. But to be fair, most of the green group had never been on track before. I'm glad my first experience wasn't so tenuous.

Oh, and that Contour was next to me in the paddock for a little while. Tom is it? I apologize, but I was too wet and miserable to introduce myself. Mebbe next time.

yes, that was me tucked up behind you in the white bmw. that train did not speed up or offer any passes after you pulled in to the pits.

I don't know if any of you knew Matt Andrews, but he had a '96 green supra and was an instructor at several events, about 5 years ago. I don't know what clubs he tracked with, but he since moved to California and has been in several articles in the annual GRM challenge with that same Supra. Came in second the first year and third the second in that same mostly stock supra, IIRC.

Yeah, i saw you back there. I felt pretty bad and almost pointed you past me, but then realized that I wasn't the one holding you up...that we were both being held up by the cars in front of me. I don't remember who was in front of me, but i do remember that i was on his tail for about 3 laps before i realized that he wasn't going to point me by. So then i just backed off and tried to enjoy the cruise. :x

See you at VIR-N in April for another shot at it??? I'm sure you'll get plenty of apportunities to go around me then. :)

Well, you might be right if the cars just drove themselves. But once you add a driver...anything can happen. Trust me, i've been passed by slower cars than yours. That's why i need more seat time, cause right now this car can do much more than i can. :?
