The ONLY place that MIGHT have something would be Ron Ayers Motorsports, but I would bet it Motorcycle ONLY.

Online, VIR, or the Simpson store near Charlotte.

I bought my G Force at Discoveryparts.com, no problems at all. I know Kevin and Vincent got theirs online as well.

I really think that as a club we could find a way to get together some afternoon and have a helmet test fitting day. There's so many of us...it sounds doable to me. Otherwise...

CV Products is in High Point, just off exit 102 on I-85 (you can see it from the freeway). They carry Bell and Sparco. The Sparco line won't have a whole lot of budget stuff, so if that's what you're looking for, skip the Sparco stuff. Otherwise, if they fit you, Sparco makes a seriously nice helmet. CV is a large distributor and if you're shopping those two brands, odds are, they have your size.

You could also come to an SCCA race weekend, largely at Road Atlanta (there's one coming up in February). Safe-Quip brings a huge enclosed trailer full of driver gear, including helmets. (On edit...NOTE: I've not seen them at non-Road Atlanta race weekends. Better call them to see)

I'd offer to let you try on my new Impact Racing Charger "Plus Ten," but it's in Atlanta being wired for radios. When I get it back, you're more than welcome to meet up with me and try it on. FWIW, I've got a big head and take an XL. The Impact fits me like a glove - the only of I dunno, like ten helmets I tested that just felt perfect.

Cline,

In G'ville?!? Not gonna happen. Actually, I'm not sure you could find anything in Raleigh either. Look, I've got a G-Force Pro in Medium. You're welcome to try it on for size. I am actually quite pleased with the way it fit. I've had Bell's in the past for a motorcycle and was never pleased with the fit to my noggin.

Like Jim, I've got a pet supplier, Discovery Parts. They are quick to respond and have excelled at customer satisfaction so far. If you order tomorrow or Thursday, it will be here UPS Ground by Monday easy.

Feel free to call: 531.0777

Coco did this last fall, and while I wasn't able to attend, all indications are things were basically priced out of almost everyone's reach :(

Does Autosport Gallery have anyting in north Raliegh? Don't know if anything is going on at VIR this weekend or not, but a call up there to find out when the shop is open might be a good idea. I too would recommend Racerwholesale dot com. Just follow the sizing chart and you should be ok, even at this last minute.

Racerwholesale was the best price, beat discovery by about $30 on the full face helmet. Glad all this stuff is a business deduction since I am only doing it for the advertising value!

Kevin, thanks for the offer, I am always between a large or extralarge, nogging that is.

Thanks for all the input.

Be careful with the pricing on helmets. When I was shopping for my new one I found one place that seemed to beat everyone by a few bucks. But the fine print said its for a M helmet. The SA was, surprise...the same price as everyone else.

Thikn I bought mine , A Simpson, from Discovery Parts. Quite the nice helmet.

Had used Bell before but was not at all happy about the insides falling appart. Down to the liner which was also wearing away. I saw no good reason to send them even more money to re line the helmet. I figured it shouldn't have worn out like it did in the first place.

Stacy: Please lets not encourage folks to buy an open face helmet. Yes they are a WHOLE lot cheaper then full face. This is one case where you get what you pay for.

Mine is indeed an SA, and the price was about $250.00. Mine is an HJC model with a removable machine-washable liner. Very nice and fits well.

IMO, the crappiest ones are the G-Force models. Their gelcoat cracks on a whim and the lining isn't very nice either.

I've always had a full-face helmet and couldn't imagine a reason to have an open-faced one.

I was simply offering suggestions... I prefer the hybrid myself. My personal opinon is that open face helmets, so long as they meet the requirements, are fine for beginner and intermediate level HPDE/autocross use. Having said that, I do not think they should be worn in cars that do not have airbags, or cars that have them turned off for whatever reason.
