Recieved this from Vickie Abbott:

Hi Mark, this is Vickie. There has been some negative publicity in the Salisbury news paper, but the information I have is that all is still well. Will let all interested parties know as soon as construction starts which I believe will still be sometime in January. Hope you have a great Christmas.

Best regards,
Vickie

Greetings:

I was contacted by Vickie Abbott a few months back. We expressed interested for rental dates for the 2007 track season.

Can you give us an update and confirm construction will start in next month (Jan 2007).
We very much are rooting for your success. We have strong confidence NC can and will support another road course venue targeted at the club level

So long as it's not a CMP clone. However, recent news casts doubt on the ability of the project to get off the ground.

Happy Holidays!

Maybe we could help with the track work.

Maybe after they decide where the track should go, we could organize a Rally-X and "qualify/verify" the track layout. :D

I went to a luncheon last month where the guy who is the putting all this together gave us a briefing on the status. He said there will be between 110-130 condos for sale (I believe those will be priced at ~$179,000) and the financing package requires a percentage of those to be sold before they can put the permanent financing in place. He said he didn't expect that to be a problem. When that occurs (hopefully September), then they will start grading with paving next September ('07) with curing until Feb '08, then opening.

He had drawing of the condos and they were pretty nice, garage on the bottom, living on the 2nd floor with a balcony facing the track and a viewing platform on the roof.

Elliot Ford Robinson is the track designer after Alan Wilson gave some preliminary ideas.

They sold part of the parcel of land to a Motorcycle school that teaches guys to ride in the big time motorcycle racing circuits. The guy who owns this school expects to open a shifter kart course, too. I think he's already paved his section for the motorcycle school. His enterprise is completely seperate from the main race track.

Go to the Salisbury Post website (http://www.salisburypost.com/) and do a news search on High Rock International, and you'll see a few more local stories that didn't really make it beyond Rowan county. It actually looks like the track might happen. Like Matt N. said a long time ago, "I'll believe this track is going to happen when I'm on my out lap for my first session."

Cautiously optimistic,
TF

I read through what articles I found and I'm seeing more support than opposition. There seem to be a couple of folks (Brownlee mainly) very opposed, making a lot of noise, but the articles give me the impression that the community there is mostly in favor.

I drove past the site twice on my way to VIR this past weekend. I saw no signs of recent activity. The area they cleared adjacent to the interstate 2 years ago is beginning to overgrow again.

If there's no movement in the next 6 month on this, I think we can call it dead.

I got another update from Vickie. Says project is not dead,
they have gotten their finances sorted, as well as the Historical
Society person who was opposed to the project (and the source
of most of the the negative publicity), so are still projecting a 2008 opening.

However, as there is still no sign of construction, I can't really
be too optimestic.

Here's a funny line from the article:

"Spacing of cars would be controlled and no side-by-side driving would be allowed."

(I think it was in reference to the private track days but the article isn't terribly well edited.)

Sounds like Green group! No watching your mirrors or passing by low HP cars over high HP cars allowed.
