Mark, I was wondering why we never run North Course (instead of South)? Also Grand Course looks like VIR-F on steroids...cool!

Not trying to run the TT program (you're doing an EXCELLENT job) just curious.

Unless there is someone on Patriot the same weekend, could we not convert our full course event to a Grand event without too much headache? We would need extra workers, but other than that, is there anything else?

BTW, I love the program the way it is, but the curiousity factor fot eh Grand configuration is killing me!

A Lot of people who ran the Grand course did not like it all, it sounds like a good thing, but appartenly its not that much fun to lap after lap.

I can't decide weather Full or VIR-N is my favortie, the North course cross-over is an absoulute blast, all though I do miss the uphill esses, but norht is a great course.

For me, it is all about the Uphill Esses. There is no other track that I have driven that has a sequence of corners at that speed. A thrill lap after lap after lap.

Yeah, November seems like for-ev-er! I'm still working on the ZR-1 brake kit and a few other upgrades, but I'll be raring to go at The Rock!

I'm with Rich on the Uphill Esses, along with South Bend. It really gets your heart pumpin'. :woo:
South's Downhill Spiral is a close second. If it were only longer, it would be #1 hands down for me.

My favorite at VIR is North course, especially before they added the extra pavement at the top of the crossover. That had real pucker factor. Still the best though since you're NEVER going straight, not really.

I do miss the uphill esses of Full course, but not having to take a novel along for the back straight is a definite plus.

Diane :)

Not yet. It is definitely on the list of things to do. I passed on an opportulnity earlier this year with the Alfa Romeo bunch. I've been regretting that decision all summer. :( Maybe some day.....

I know Mark isn't on this thing much, so I'll try and explain. It has to do with money and availability.

When we do our winter event, we get off season pricing to rent the track. Years ago we made the call that if we were going to spend that money for that weekend, we wanted the full course. We felt it had a huge draw, and due to its additional length, we can hold a larger school. Thereby covering the cost.

North course is also kind of expensive to rent because you're now renting the full course paddock, with the restaraunt, pro shop, and tech shed. I don't remember the exact pricing (and wouldn't disclose it anyway) but I think the two rentals were close to each other.

South course I'm pretty sure around Easter is "our weekend" and the North belongs to the motorcycle guys.

It's difficult to get dates at this facility, particlarly as such an active club. Track team does its best to not step on the autocross schedule. We also keep in mind conflicts with other organizations that could sap our instructor pool - e.g., the Mazda grand course weekend almost left us short of instructors for Roebling. So scheduling is complex, and generally just a matter of what's available when, and how much it costs to rent it.

Hope that helps.

My personal preference at VIR are: North course, Full course, South course and Patriot even there am almost tented to put Patriot ahead of South since it was so much fun.

Full, South, and North is my order of preference but all have their fun parts. I agree that you can't beat the uphill esses for fun. My goal is to enter and exit them with my foot to the floor. That goal got a reality check last time I was there. I was following a 911 and he lost it in the last right hander before South Bend and went around twice. Luck for him he stayed on track till he was down to about 5 mph.

i do so look forward to my first VIR experience. the bmw is almost out of the shop. seems a former owner missed a recall and i need to take it to the dealer for software updates so my chip will take. i can feel the chilly morning air and i yearn for spring. well, that and some rockingham autumn sun, cool temperatures, and fast laps.
