I thought the "crossover" was on VIR-N? :?

Besides we are both driving slow while you're just watching.

I have contact info for Burton Smith. I will write him and let him
know how we feel about the venue and the staff running it and
how we hope it will be successful as a "club track". Also will
suggest they look into trying to get GrandAM/Rollex Cup in
there.

Mark,

THSCC is not the only club renting that track. I'm sure the others would be just as eager to send mail supporting keeping that venue open to clubs and the like. There was a post on CF about another club using the Rock. More support for the cause couldn't hurt...

Graham

if i could chime in from a novice point of view here. thanks to all who helped make my first track event an enjoyable experience. i learned a lot i feel in a short period of time. excellent instructor feedback both in the classroom and on the track. how much stays with me i can't say just yet. some sensory overload i'm sure. the nascar bowl still scares the begeezus out of me although i did think i was becoming slightly more at ease with it as the event wore on. wow what a rush.

and finally the Microtel. what it may have lacked in posh accoutrements, it surely made up for in price, location and it was quiet. the italian restaurant across the street was good for dinner. i vote for the Microtel in November.

I ran in the novice group this weekend and had a great time. I don't know what Mark is complaining about, seven seemed like the right number of cars on the track to me. ;-)

This was my third event, and I really agree with what was said about it being great for learning. It seemed like the perfect third event, after VIR-S and VIR-full. I think I was just ready to start learning about rotation, and this was a great safe place to do it.

I spent some time each day taking pictures and have posted a ton of them here: http://www.imagestation.com/album/pictu ... 2125610658

Hope you find one of you you like. As I was in green group I didn't get any pictures there, and less yellow than I would have liked since we seemed to always be on track next.

Thanks again for a great event!

Isn't it amazing how facilities can make or break an experience? While the Rock is essentially in the same geographic location as CMP (flat, sandhills, HOTTER THAN HELL) the addition of garages and LARGE air conditioned rooms just made this one kick ass weekend. Can any of you imagine how sucky CMP would have been last weekend (no shade, 1 trailer with A/C, sleeping at the Executioner).

Then there's dinner in Pinehurst vs. dinner in Kershaw. Need I say more?

Yep, no matter how many ways you look at it, the Rock kicks ass. I just hope they don't let the maintenance go to hell now that the Cup boys won't be back.

the "Barn" while reknown for its prime rib was slap-ass-full of drunken golfers on friday night. still i agree s. pines prevailed as an excellent host in spite of its usual suspects.

I like CMP. I hope we bring it back. I'd rather go to CMP for a full track circuit for TT than go to the Rock twice. I'm not saying it's better than the Rock, just different. Variety is good. CMP is hard on brakes, the Rock is hard on tires. I'd love to get to Summit Point also, I've never driven that track. There are no bad tracks, just different levels of goodness.

Have to agree with Mark that variety is good. However, the facilities at CMP being as basic as they are does make running a school more difficult. Just think how lucky we are. We have VIR, which is three tracks, Rockingham, CMP, Roebling, Summit, Road Atlanta (2 configrations) and maybe High Rock all within about 5 hours. Each one of those track can be reached for a weekend event without requiring time off work (normal business hours). Pretty sweet if you ask me.

I will agree that variety is good, and CMP is different. But if I ever hit the powerball, I'm buying CMP, lots of dynamite, and blowing it the f#ck up. I may sell tickets.

I am not alone in my hatred of that place....

Matt<--looking forward to NOT going to CMP at all in 2005...

I like CMP. Especially in the rain. Now THAT is a good time in a RWD car :)

All CMP really needs is to bulldoze Turns 12-13 and make a Roebling-esque carussell, then pave some of the paddock. The loss of those 2 stabs on the brakes would really help reduce the brake-killer nature of the track, I think.

Don't forget Summit Pt (3 tracks) and Charlotte in the 5 hour window.

Word on the street is High Rock has the money and the community support/blessing. Rumor has it trees are already being cleared. Mark, heard anything about pricing yet? When can we sign up for a date?

Matt<---lives within *3* hours of *5* different tracks.....
