I am thinking about doing my first driving school this summer. What is required for tech inspection beyond the normal procedure at an autocross?

Read this document:

http://www.thscc.com/timetrial/nonhtml/ ... _Final.pdf

Then, you will have to have one of these

http://www.thscc.com/timetrial/nonhtml/ ... orm_v3.pdf

filled out before the event.

Not trying to stop your questions, but that is where most all the answers come from. If there is anything in either that does not make sense, please ask.

I suppose I should have done a better job asking my question.

So I do need to get an Annual Tech Inspection to participate in a driving school.?

From http://www.thscc.com/timetrial/nonhtml/ ... orm_v3.pdf :
Quote:
To participate in our driving schools and/or time trial, at least one of the following is required:
1) A current THSCC annual inspection sticker and signed Event Safety Checklist.
2) A current national sanctioning body Vehicle Log Book (i.e. SCCA, BMWCCA, SVRA, EMRA, PDC, NASA, etc.)
3) An annual technical inspection form (this form) completed and signed by a qualified shop and presented at registration

In order to get #1 on the list, the same form says:
Quote:
Each car must be inspected by a qualified shop (not you!) once a year.

The tech inspection required for a THSCC track school is good for the calendar year (you get a sticker and everything). You can download the tech form from the thscc website (probably the links Rich already posted).

THe autocross annual tech is meaningless at a track school however, the track tech is accepted at the autocrosses.

One passes the annual tech inspection of one of the approved list of sanctioning bodies.

Go to www.scca.com and look at the GCR rules, get your car compliant with the GCR and find a SCCA tech day. At the same time open up your wallet cause it WILL NOT be cheap. Unless you buy a ready made IT car (I hear Rice's GSR is still for sale) this is not a route a newbie will want to take. An SCCA logbook is for car that will see wheel to wheel action.

Mark and the track team make getting on track VERY easy and VERY, VERY cost effective. Follow their path and you will be on track for minimal cost and still be very safe.

yup-
"3) An annual technical inspection form (this form) completed and signed by a qualified shop and presented at registration"

"qualified" means a legitimate mechanic (hopefully SAE certified) - not you or a buddy in your own driveway - there is no "stamp of approval" from THSCC for particular mechanics, though those who advertise and help sponsor the club typically do a number of these and know more about them than your average mechanic.

Yeah, Ya'll have been a big help. I'm not sure that I will have the funds for the first Rockingham event but I'm going to do what I can to make the second event out there.
