Indeed another great event. Thanks to Mark, Stacy and all the crew for their efforts.

The event ran like clock work with few, if any delays. Students enjoyed full length sessions. In fact I even heard someone ask if they were longer then usual! A nice "problem" to have.

And the weather? Well, I can't see how it can get any better than that in April, or really any time of the year. No rain, lots of sun and except for the cooling breeze on Saturday about ideal.

Don't miss another great event. Come on out to Rockingham!

Ron

Some highlights: (yeah, so I'm going to pick on a few people :) )

- Ryan's CRX got 'er done, if gettin 'er done means throwing a rod bearing. Poor guy.

- Randy Melton (his first event) was heard saying "I saw the black flag the fourth time around". He certainly looked like he was having a good time until the event organizers parked him for the day!

- Green racing stripes are apparently the new style. Ask Rich about his on his front bumper and Ileana Marks about hers on the rear bumper of the M5. They should be able to tell you how to get your own.

- VIR South + 2 fast drivers >> brakes on an E30. I went through $250 in brake consumables this weekend. Need to do something about that.

- DSP was a fun and close class! 8 drivers with about a 4 second spread if I remember correctly. Keith has really got his game on, and a good car, and I predict he'll kick my ass some day. Kendra turned in a smoking 1:27.8 on Sunday, 3+ seconds faster than the last time she was there.

Anyone else?

Yawn. I ran $70 PFC Z pads and have half of them left. Of course, you have seen why. Mustang parts can make your BMW fast too!

I'd be interested to know how to get my own. Driving into the guardrail on the **inside** of Oak Tree is a concept I just can't get my head wrapped around.

Aren't you the originator of the concept "Turn in Early and Floor it"? I bet he learned how from you :)

Rear end link bind = solid rear suspension = snap spin.

With an infinite rear spring rate mid corner, you and the inside guardrail can become friends too!

No my CRX motor is just flat DONE! I am not surprised at all. It has had suspect oil pressure since about 250 miles into the breakin. I signed up for the school and showed up knowing my odds were fair for blowing it up. I enjoyed every minute of it and would do it again.

Right now, the market for decent milage D16A6's flat sucks. I havent found one yet :( There is a growing possibility of a better motor being dropped in. I have found a SOHC VTEC D16y8 for $400 locally. So STT may be a thing of the past, that is unless you guys let me run with the 20 extra HP  We shall see....

BTW- A rebuild is not going to happen right now. I just dont have the time nor desire

The problem is he got a G/F about the same time as the engine re-build. Let's say that his focus probably wasn't on the car the whole time.

And ironically the polished (turned) crankshaft was most likely the problem.

Rice

If you start the spin in the braking zone for 11A the rear end is already loaded to the left. When it breaks loose (been there, done that twice) it continues its swing to the left. Guess where you are pointed!! Yep, inside armco at Oak Tree. I "flat spun" there this weekend and for a LONG time was looking at the inside armco while pointed at it. Fortunately I continued the spin and did a long, gentle 180.

Ryan, if you would email me the name of the local place that has the ZC engines?

Thanks!
Ron

I forgot one thing in my post from the weekend.

Thank god for all the good people in this club.

Mark Cooper especially! He has got me home not once but TWICE this year. Not only is he an asset to the club as a sponsor but as a good person in a time of need.

Words cannot express my thanks!

I had the opportunity to ride in Sean Smiths's Radical SR3 while he cranked
off a couple of hot laps before running into traffic. A life changing experience
that was. Amazing cornering at 2G, breaking at 2++, accelerating
at god know's what rate. More impressive considering Sean is carrying
185lbs of ballest. Helmet wants to lift off head on the streights and
the sound is phenomial. It's so fast after a few laps you start to lose
the sensation of speed until you get held up by lumbering lumps of
vehicles that are pittlyfully slow but in fact are track peparied 996, Z06,
or overboosted RX7's that are generally considered fast as heck.

Sean currently holds the THSCC VIR-S track record with a 1:12.
Adam should have the results posted shortly.

I've seen the future and its "Sports Racing".
