I'm gratified to read you statment today. Eric mentioned something
last night but hearing this from you is meaningful. We are not
ready to write you off just yet if you understand the
real issues at sake:
1) taking the uncertain/unknow element out of the driving equation
when driving high speed on track.
2) Making sure bad judgement on your part does not cause damage
or injury to someone else.
3) Preventing the things that trigger "red mist".
4) the devidends to be gained by earning the respect of your pears.
5) the resulting fun form getting the traffic flow right.
6) help break the typical "Corvette/Viper Driver" mith rather than
contribute to it.

We'll get it right next time.

I appeciate the 2nd chance, like I told a few of the staff, if I am upsetting this great group of guys running this operation, I must be doing something wrong. I was completely accepting of the feedback, and made a point to make a positive correction every time I received that feedback. I was used to "open track" days, not necessarily "driving schools", I now know the difference, and can respect each one for what it is. Thanks again. I'll keep saying it, you're a group of class act car people, and I'm proud to be part of this group.

Matt Nicholson was being modest. I saw him late Sunday stil at he track after he had said so long hours ago. Turns out he very kindly trailered Aaron's car back for him. then Matt had to continue on his drive to Shelby! Not a short drive. Way to go Matt!!

Als, lets not forget that Mark Vitacco also lost his engine. After not getting to drive at all on Satuday it blew after jsut a few laps on Sunday.

So, not only did he and the crew put this all together, he didn't even get to enjoy driving in it!! We owe Mark, Stacy, and all the others who work so hard on this a GREAT deal of thanks!! Like Karl said, its amazing our two clubs can put something on like this with organization that rivals, if not surpasses, the "professional" organizations.

If you have the urge to help please let them know. I imagine they will find a way to put you to work!!

Hey Jon - welcome to the fold since I haven't said it already.

Have you done the Viper Days thing at VIR (usually July) or elsewhere? I've done it once, in my Integra during the Friday open lapping day. And yes, it was a sort of a "We'd like you to point people by, but you don't have to" thing. For me it was the opposite experience you apparently had this past weekend...I wasn't used to being passed basically wherever, whenever.

Next time we host an event, I do hope you'll come by and introduce yourself. At a minimum I'm in a white diesel 2WD Ford Excursion. Although it's usually in pieces in my garage, I drive a black Integra GS-R club racer with blue lettering. Stop by.

Thx Karl,

And yep, my first track events were in Viper Days both at mid ohio and VIR and a number of G&W track days too. So I started off in the "open track" forum type of events, which going to a structured "dont pass until you get the point bye" created some initial challenges for me. I eventually picked up the rule, and followed it like a religion (even when most of my body told me to do otherwise ;-) ). I'd be more then happy to meet you and the other members of this club that I have yet to meet at the next event/gathering.

Jon

I agree. This event was run in an outstanding fashion! Just staying on time is often a major deal at track events, so the behind the scenes organization was obviously phenomenal.

Ron, I wouldn't consider you the "mean" classroom guy at all. I may be a bit dated as most all of my track experience is with the BMWCCA from 1981 through 1990, so I've just gotten back into it recently, but at National Capital Chapter events back then, people would simply have been ejected from the event if the behavior continued after one simple, but stern, warning. I for one greatly appreciate and thank you for your talk to the troops -- it was right on target, good job. :) The atmosphere on track on Sunday was much nicer as a result.

Now if I can just find a solution to my outboard rotor face cooling issue...

I agree.
Ron did a great job in the classroom getting our point across about some of the shenanigans during the yellow/blue sessions.

In spite of the questionable passing moves, we are fortunate that we had no major incidents.

I even learned what it's like to have a strut puke out all the fluid and then discover it at speed in hogpen with the RF jumping like a basketball. Uhhh... pretty scary.

Needless to say, parked it on the trailer for an early exit.

Great job all.

Sounds like a good event...does anyone have pictures of the event? Particularly of Marc O' Dell's E46 (curious what he's got in it)?

Karma. Just paying back the "Tow Gods" for the several times my car has been incapacitated hours from home and I've recieved a tow back to Durham (Whipple's Type R+ BFG G Forces+autocross alignment + 3 hour drive home through construction zones = NO DAMN FUN, in case you wondered). One day I expect to see Aaron towing home someone who put their car in the tire wall...

It didn't hurt that I was driving within 3 miles of Buckley's apartment anyway...
