I have heard the RE71s do wear pretty quickly on track. They're a much better AutoX tire than a track tire.

I think ZII Star specs and RS3s are probably some of the preferred street tires for track from what i've heard.

This is excellent Intel, and much appreciated! Given what "usual" wear is like on the RE71Rs, I shudder to think what "greater than usual" must be like.

Are there different track configurations at CMP, like there are at VIR (Full/North/Grand/etc), and if so, which will we be running? Clearly I need to educate myself on this kink thing, and turn numbers.

Technically there are multiple configurations, but they are never used. We run the full course.

About the kink if they didn’t made any change since the last time I went there don’t take it too much on the inside, there is a slight bump on the inside that become bigger and bigger the more you take it on the inside.
Some years ago I took it too much on the inside and it send the 911 in a nice 360 with a lots of smoke, luckily it stay on the tarmac.

Have you ever ridden with Patrice? I have, and trust me, he's hammer down most of the time!

You can count on that.

The food stand isn't terrible. There's a Subway up the road if that strikes your fancy vs a chicken sandwich with fries.

The food stand is better than used to be (new owners), but be aware they are slooooow. Get there early, otherwise you be waiting for a while.

One more thing, I'd advise against getting fuel from the station right outside the track. Their 93 grade has been suspect in the past. The track has fuel, but it's quite pricey of course. Just take a right when you leave and head into Kershaw to the Shell station instead.

Plus "he was F-ing with the wrong Patel" raises the price of 93 on race weekends.

The inside of T-11 is a great place to pass

I guess from the outside it might have look like Sullivan at Indy. I keep going like before, I was just more careful in the kink to not take too much of the bump.
With the Miata the bump was less an issue. With the Miata it was flat all the way thru the kink, with the 911, I had to brake for the kink, the speed in the kink was basically the same for both cars according to the data acq.

One other thing to add. Running soft tires like that at CMP is going to be a bit of a gamble. Be careful and manage your understeer carefully. There are many places at CMP where you are going to want to just plow through it, most of these are right hand tuns. It's likely worth bringing a tire gauge and checking your front left tire after Saturday. It may be worthwhile to rotate your tires. I'd suggest making friends with someone who has a trailer so you don't need to bring a bunch of tools.

Watch this video of Jimmy Johnson at CMP. It shows you what happens when you don't do the kink correctly. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qT7XBqf1kmY
Corvettes get a little light in the back end over the kink especially if you are lifting as you hit it. The rear wheels go airborne and there is just enough lateral loading on the car to cause the rear end to pass the front. I don't know if this is the best way to do it, but I do a brake brush before the kink and feed it a little gas as I'm going over the kink. This keeps the rear end from going airborne on the bump. This works even if you are tight to the inside gator and lets you give it more gas exiting the kink than you could do if you were going wide. Here's a club member loosing it at the kink. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pdS0p_Og3hI It looks like my Vette but it isn't.
