Looking at going to CMP with NASA in Nov. and was wondering if any of you have run with them and didnt have to do their tech. Being in Raleigh, I dont see an "official" tech station listed so I am hoping they will let our tech fly at their events.

I don't think they'll let it fly, but if you're doing HPDE with them, their tech form can be signed by pretty much anyone, and their tech inspection is very basic.

Print the tech form off of their website, then check to make sure everything is OK, sign it and you're good.

I've done a few NASA events and sailed right through tech. They hardly even look at the car.

Even for race cars NASA tech is a joke.

Of course. If they turn you away because you fail tech that's money out of the Corbetto's pockets.

I thought the race techs you had to pay for, I had one done on the mini to make sure it was OK, but it was a parking lot deal

hpde is more of an honor system, did you check what you signed off on checking

THSCC puts cars on lifts when you go for a annual track tech. They're pretty thorough in checking for any issues and one of the track VPs is usually there as well. That said, my brother got told his subframe on his 2010 Camaro was cracked when it wasn't. He went and paid a shop to look at it and they confirmed it wasn't actually cracked. It's mostly a volunteer group so i'm sure sometimes things get overlooked. It really is your responsibility though to ensure everything is safe on your car because you will likely be the one to pay the price if it's not.

I think all they did was measure the thickness of my cage and stamp the logbook number in it. They make look at the HPDE cars closer since an instructor may end up in them.

Mark Barnes once told me at an annual tech that my LCA bushing felt a little loose. I checked it out and thought it was fine. Two events later it disintegrated and I stuffed the car into a wall. Mark may have been right about that one.

NASA Annual tech is $100 for race and time trials cars, I know there are certified shops that can do these, or NASA tech inspectors can do them.

HPDE tech is WAY different, basically a CYA type thing for them to get the driver to sign that the driver of the car is aware that things should be checked and he/she has checked them and found them to be OK.

The last couple of NASA-SE HPDE techs I went thru were basically: turn in completed tech form, someone checked to see if I had brake lights and a NASA HPDE run group sticker and I was done.

Not sure if that is a SE thing, but in MA you just roll through the tech line in the beginning of the season and you're done.
