Hmm not sure why I could not find that size, but those are street tires? I won't be on the street at all with this car

RS3s as well.

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp ... &tab=Sizes

225/45r15 is a Miata size, most decent tires will have it.

If you're working on brake zones and apexs run cheap street tires.

Those won't chunk? These MINIs oversteer the front if grip is not good

I'm not terribly interested in street tires but I don't want soft Hoosiers

Wait, you are trying to eliminate oversteer in a FWD car? Why in h3ll would you want to do that?

sorry understeer, with the current setup I can induce oversteer anytime at NC car, just lift and the rear drifts !

was fun once I got used to it, was pucker the first time, glad the mini has enough power to pull out of spins easy, I credit autocross for teaching me that technique

Yep, that's what you want. Off-throttle oversteer is a great tool to get around corners more easily in a FWD car.

RS3s won't chunk, or any other 200TW autocross/track tire. Chump cars all run 200TW street tires, I even have a used set of 225/45R15s that came from a chump car in my shed, besides the normal wear patterns from really hard track use they look fine.

Basically any decent summer tire usually won't chunk on you, i've run 300TW summers around VIR in a 2010 Camaro SS and while they could wind up getting greasy, they never chunked on me.

Since you're starting out, you want to be on street tires. A hard R compound like the NT01 and RC-1 are fine if you know how to get around the track and you want to go marginally faster for cheaper than what the current batch of 200TW tires offer. The Rival S and RE-71R have their tread life measured in single digit hours; however, they are street legal while approaching times that were for dedicated race compound tires only.

The R-S3 V2 is a bit older and marginally slower; however, they aren't made of magic pixie dust, so they will actually last more than 2 or 3 weeks.

I'd skip the V720s because they look like they have chunking issues. I think Chad has some choice words about NT05s if I'm remembering correctly.

I don't know about Chad, but I sure do. I bought a new set of NT-05s for my Mustang because I was told they were decent and just happened to be on sale for $100 off on DTD. After 3 laps at CMP they were like glass and I sideways a lot. Yeah, NT-05s suck, at least they do for a heavy RWD with lots of power and torque.

I ran the RS3's at NCCAR and was pleased with them once I got a more aggressive alignment and I learned to drive smoother. They've got two track days on them and about 5K daily miles and I have lots of tread left. Also, they were half the price of any other competitive tire on TireRack. NCCAR is hard on tires since the surface is like a cheese grater, so if you overdrive them you will lose a lot of tread. For my first event there, my left front had lost a lot of it's shoulder, but rotating and and adding more camber to the front they were solid for the second event.

I never ran NT-05s on the Camaro, I had some Mickey Thompson Street comps that were a 300TW summer tire. They weren't that grippy but held up on a over 4k lb 421 RWHP car just fine around VIR. They would get a little slick towards the end of a session and my lap times would drop a bit. It as kind of an experimental tire purchase, plus it was a daily driver at the time also.

You mean RE-71s actually started chunking? As in chunks of tire coming off of the tire?

This is usually what people refer to when they think of chunking: http://chows.smugmug.com/Davids-Gadgets ... 56m7-L.jpg

The tire is actually coming apart.

so I'm down to rs3 vs RC-1 soon as some of the mini guys give me some feedback I'll order.

I should probably test fit my spare wheels, not sure I can fit all of it in the mini that might force me to get rs3 until i can get a trailer and tow the mini

I was running a 1:46 at nccar counter clockwise once the track got dry, I could only do that for a couple laps per session the tires got hot and greasy. The center peanut turn, I coulda gone a lot faster but the tires sounded & felt like money was flying off of them

re: chunking yeah the outside edge rubber started to tear a bit, I caught it just in time and moved those tires to the back of the car and slowed down a bit

That is incorrect, especially on a front wheel drive car at CMP. I honestly don't know how bad NCCAR's surface is compared to CMP, but I've run all the 200TW cars either on my Integra or our LeMons Integra and they will all chunk. IMHO, the Rival is the easiest to mitigate that with as you can flip side to side as well as front to back. Yes, I realize you can run a directional tire backwards if not in the wet, but that will also cause them to chunk even worse at a track with a surface like CMP.
