Thscc only has one event I can do per year, I'll look into track daze too

I got a great instructor this weekend, better than the skip barber school

well that was a ton of fun, got signed off on solo sunday. I did destroy the outside edge on a brand new set of re71rs, they had 1 autocross on them and now I have to flip them and I should be able to get another weekend on them, going to CMP in november with NASA, plan is still to go to HPDE4 and then decide if I wanna pick up a spec-e30 or build a hpde4 car will see how the mini does on the track with that group first, and I have to get the tire wear under control. I ended up at 43psi hot, when I autocross I run at 35 hot, increasing the pressure did help with outside edge wear I cant tell what it did to my laptime as my lines got better and smoother as I learned so I was faster.

I can get another 1/2 a degree camber at least, and I'm going to firm up the shock compression all the way. Instructor thinks I need a lot more spring, the kw v3 I have are just too soft up front for sure, it rolled over onto the edge of the tire too much.

I wouldn't run RE71s on the track, you'll wind up buying a lot of tires. RS3s are a pretty popular tire for track along with ZII star specs, they both should hold up way better than a RE71. The RE71 is just way to soft for track abuse, probably especially on a FWD car.

what about slicks? I was considering 225/45/15 maxxis RC-1 I figure I'll get more track days and to be honest tire & brake pad are the only thing that prevent me from doing one event every month

Couple guys there said the maxxis wear like iron, and they actually have a good size for my 15x8 wheels. I have 16x7 re71s on my autocross car I can use those as rain tires if needed

Slicks might actually last longer than RE71s, the RE71s are really just meant to be a fast Autocross tire, I doubt they ever intended them to be run around the race track. I don't personally have experience with slicks, but I know people usually get at least a few weekends out of them, which sounds like more than you're getting from the RE71s.

I had to hold back on the 6th session and then rotate the tires. I can get another 10 sessions after I flip the tires on the wheels, so 4 days of track.

they worked really well, just the 2" of outside front edges they took a beat down, I think they were overheating just on that spot, I need to get a needle temp gauge

For a camber challenged front wheel drive car running on tracks that are particularly hard on that outside edge like NCCAR and CMP, pick a non directional tire like a BFG Rival so that you can rotate side to side as well as front to back. It's really hard to truly use up a set of tire from sidewall to sidewall running directional tires on a FWD car unless you are flipping them on the rims almost every event. That gets expensive.

IMHO, you aren't going to get much more use out of a set of slicks vs. BFG Rivals and you are going to pay more for the slicks.

And I've run the RE-71R's on my Integra at VIR and the wear isn't any worse than other tires. After two events at VIR they looked pretty good. Third event at CMP...killed them.

I'm having them flipped tomoreow, I really want a tire machine and balancer. Walmart will flip for 8$ a tire if I balance myself

Famous last words. When you do, you'll gladly pay someone else to do it!

(Oh, and ignore what the manual or installer says. Bolt the balancer to the floor!)

got my new rims back with scratches, that is another reason I want a machine.

it's hard to justify a tire changer, but a balancer will pay for itself sooner. Ebay has changers/balancers for 1300 $ now, I have no idea how good they are

+1. There are a few automotive related tasks you think you want to do, but you really don't, as the aggravation factor makes it not worth your time. My list includes:

1. M&B Tires
2. Alignment
3. Window tint

It seems to be a mixed bag with reports on them so far. Some people say they didn't hold up nearly as long while I see some people say they didn't notice much difference. FWD will be hard on any tire so I think the non-directional suggestion is a solid one.

no bfg rivals in my size, 225/45/15

still leaning towards some maxxis rc-1 they are cheap and supposed to wear like iron, supposedly they dont grip like a R7 but they wear better and the tread goes around the edge so hopefully they wear better there on FWD cars

635 $ from maxxis at least they have free shipping

hmm I forgot about the NT-01 I bet those wear better too, anyone used them? they come in the size I need and they cost the same as the rc-1 so its a matter of cost per track session really, I dont care if I'm a second slower I'm still learning apex and braking zones
