I supposed my old friends in NJ could use a nice track, but :

"The Millville site is to be an improved version of the VIR, Siegel said."

Yep, *that* Mr. Siegel. Gosh, did he really say "improved" ?

very likely to be ready in about 2 to 3 years. used to live near there and the economy has been in the toilet for a long time in that area. ergo locals are all for it, not against it. keeping my fingers crossed. its only a 3 hour tow for me.

the daily journal in millville has an on line poll open to anyone. go to www.the dailyjournal.com and vote "yes" on track.

Harvey Siegel says the track should open fairly soon, before the end of the year, hopefully by summer.

Wow, its even built around an airport to accomodate the jet setters. I bet this will be hi rent stuff in a short period of time.

That is Millville Airport which is now used for general aviation. It was built in 1941 by the Army as the country's first "Defense" airport. There is also an Army Air Field museum on the site .
Joan and I happened to be invited to a friends wedding in Millville last Spring. Her parents live virtually adjacent to the airport complex and the Friday evening before the wedding we were sitting outside on a pleasant evening enjoying a pre-wedding party. Then, quite suddenly, a number of military aircraft appear overhead a couple of hundred feet above us. It seems the Blue Angels were in town for a fund raiser for the museum and they were returning from a practice run. It was quite unreal ....

looks like a serious hump from here. given the right turn, Watkins Glen appears to be just about as far from Raleigh.

It should be interesting to see if some of the N Va clubs add it into their rotation at the expense of a VIR date ... Audi Potomac, Mazda Drivers, etc.

Speaking of new tracks, saw something on Speed today about High Rock. They're promoting it as a green track? For low emissions race cars?

maybe those pe***r-woods from NNJPCA will stay closer to home. that would be a shame if they dropped their VIR date

Yep and they have already found a fundamental flaw in their pit wall. Apparently it likes to cut DP cars in half when they spin coming out of the last corner!!!

Fortunately Scott Pruett was OK and they are currently driving the back up car from Indiana back to NJ for tomorrow's race.

I watched the Grand Am race this weekend. Gawd, they need some grass!

On TV it looks narrower than VIR. They got one killer bump that'll get you air born. I think it was Barbosa (DP car) towards the end of the race that took the bump drafting a GT car and the front end came about 4 inches off the ground. If he hadn't lifted on the throttle to plant the front end back down he'd have flipped backwards.

I also watched the race. The start (with the goof who spun the DP car in front of the GT field) was crazy. They do need grass. The track didn't look that exciting to me. The DP car that lost front downforce (following car in front of him very closely) that pulled the wheely over the hump was scary.
