It'll crack your skull. It's made to prevent your roll bar from shattering your helmet.

Thought that was the helmet's job to prevent that ;)

Uh, what?

Roll bar + head = cracked skull; rest in pizzas
Roll bar + SFI padding + head = cracked skull; rest in pizzas
Roll bar + helmet = cracked helmet = compromised safety = cracked skull; rest in pizzas

Roll bar + SFI padding + helmet = safety gear working together = uncracked skull; walk away from an accident

This. Sorry...my forward slash ("/") may have been misleading :) Since this is in the track forum I just assume everyone's wearing a helmet.

It does still bring up a good point for the street though. I should maybe research something to put on it for street use between track days. The bar is behind the head rest but who knows what can happen in a crash on the street sans helmet.

Maybe I should just wear my helmet all the time, lol.

Ah yes, I need the suit, helmet, shoes and gloves to complete the look while cruising to work!

BSCI Makes a dual durometer SFI-rated padding with a softer outer layer with an FIA-like shape with flat surfaces and a harder round inner layer that meets SFI specs. I think that it is more for comfort than for safety. They sell it at Apex for a decent price.

We use the FIA padding because it is the thickest and will absorb the most energy in an impact. I think that it is only really required for rally cars, but I figured more protection must be better, and who knows, maybe we'll rally the Duff car some day.

Interesting, I might look at putting some of this stuff in the Miata since it does get street driven without a helmet. Here's the link to it on their site.

If you want help getting lower, let me know. I have spent a dozens of hours looking at different combinations of seats, roll bar placement, floor pan modifications...

I am 6'4" and will be well under the bar in my NA. This is my view out of the car:

What are your must haves for seating in the car? Sliders? Stock 3 point belt?

I already have momo starts, the driver seat is on a slider, pretty sure if I just bolt the momo start to the floor I will be adequate head room. The passenger seat is bolt to the floor so i'll check clearance in that seat but pretty sure I would be pretty close to 2" under the stick.

I'm already clearing the stick but just barely, so I don't need much room to make the 2" requirement. I'd like to keep the current roll bar since it fits under the hard top. I don't care much about losing the seat slider, I set it once and haven't moved it since.

If you are getting rid of sliders you can gain about 1/2" taking out the rear mounting points. Sounds like you might not need to do that though.
