Haha. I talked to Jon Condon after the incident and apparently after a long talking to the driver in question, admitted he was at fault. If you see the damage to the 240, it's pretty obvious I didn't hit him, or you wouldn't only have damage to the back half of the fender and still be able to flip him.

That was shortly after the yellow got lifted as we entered turn 10. This was a pack of cars of about 8 deep and I was on the rumble strips with the driver's side tires exiting Oak Tree. This guy tried to make the pass in the dirt, was already at least had 3/4 of the car a foot down in the dirt when he hit the tread of our tire (still making the right hander) and I got to see the complete underside of their car. That's a look I don't want to experience again  - AB

How long did it take to clean your suit out? Glad you were ok.

Honestly, it was a light hit, thus my surprise when I saw the bottom of the car in my peripheral vision.

I see in the Chump Forums that they're pissed I didn't come talk to them. I refrained after finding out who it was because:

a) the driver was driving like a complete asshat prior to the collision, so it now makes sense in my mind who it was.

b) I was on line and have nothing to talk about. The overtaking person needs to ensure a clean pass. I am sure Randy would have asked them for a new fender and they would have been livid and then a fight would have broken out. No need for that. I spoke to Condon about 20 minutes after the incident and he told me the driver was fine and we did nothing wrong.

I so wish I had our video, as we had a out the windshield view as well as a driver view from the passenger b pillar. It would have been epic. That said, I am very thankful no one got hurt. - AB

I got a PM after my post from the driver in question, who is telling me it's "possible" he hit me. Regardless, I'm glad he is ok. - AB

So what does multiple collisions and mechanical failures show?

On Team Duff, we like to think that it just shows bad luck.

Hey, we had multiple collisions and mechanical failures as well. Luckily they only cost us 13 minutes total.

Bad MAP wire, 2x cracked rotor, 2x impacts worthy of looking the car over/repairing stuff.

I'd consider you guys on the right strategy.

Exactly. If Randy could get his car reliable, it could win, even with a 5 laps for the D class penalty. We started off with a broken axle boot prior to the race. This was found at Noon for a 2pm start. Try finding a Infiniti J30 axle on a Saturday :) Then we had the contact, but that really would have only cost us the mandatory 5 minutes on pit road to cut off the remainder of the fender, but a universal boot on the axle was then put on, replacing the home made boot Randy fabbed up.

Shortly thereafter, the car was making horrible noises... Throwout bearing on the clutch was done. After the full clutch install, one of the two shifter bolts came undone going into turn one. Being stuck in 5th with no ability to get it out had me stranded in the grass between 1 and 2. Randy then had an offcourse excursion that ripped off the o2 sensors, causing a small electrical fire. Then the differential overheated and caught on fire (literally), which after filling it with new fluid, only got us another 5-7 laps and we called it a day. Even with that, we had 4 of our 6 drivers that each of their best times would have cracked the top 10 for the event, with my best lap of a 2:20.6 was on lap 8, just before caution that bunched me up for the rollover wreck in Oak Tree. With 90 cars on the track at the time, I was pleased with that.

With all of that, it still goes to show that reliable speed, consistency and staying on track wins endurance races.... every single time. - AB

If they're your fault, it shows you are an E30 driver with a) no clue, or b) a wish to die in a firey mass of twisted metal. Given the number of broken, parked E30's I saw walking through the paddock Sunday morning (and the lack of traffic seen coming down roller coaster), I'd say they never learned anything.

My run was 8-10pm. There were several bands of sharks dressed in E30s constantly trying to kill you. I eventually went back to my 2011 I-don't-know-how-to-drive line that would make Ron Spencer cry. (and some idiot still passes me with 2-off on the right) I'm crowded and bumped on the right side at one point (idiots trying to go 4 wide! through snake), then at the very end of my session, an E30 dives inside T15 like a bat out of hell, out of know where as the terrain makes impossible to see him coming. That bends the fender in enough to touch the wheel during turns. And as it turned out, warped the rotor -- Kraig brought it back after it got progressively worse. I noticed the caliper seal leaking when I climbed in that 1000 degree mess of sharp bent metal. (I've had maybe 10min of sleep.) "Park it until it cools!" Dig through many boxes for the old ("they don't work so well anymore" calipers. They drag the pads a bit -- hard seals -- but they don't leak.) Kraig wisely moves the 205 tire to the back -- 205 + 195 makes for an interesting drive.

Kraig was first man on track. 30min in, someone hit him hard in the esses. Cut the side wall on the tire completely across the wheel, and denting the rim. (read: converted to 23lbs of scrap aluminium) On the bright side, it's one of those horrible wheels from the purple civic (the Terminally Confused / Bumble Bee parts car) I got about 3s of notice for that since some idiot had his radio keyed almost the entire %*$* session. The radio won't transmit if the channel is active.

As for position, we were *never* that high. You had to go to the tower to see the truth. I don't know what they were sending to race monitor, when they bothered to connect to their servers -- it wasn't your client dropping connection, the tower was dropping their feed to RM.

Luck is a minor factor in winning. (i.e. can you get the car to not blow up for an entire race?)

Shitty driving is an almost certainty of losing. Like you said in the paddock, a single 15min penalty would cost you the race. (so your drivers don't do stupid things that could get you parked.)

Despite the number of times I saw the "black flag" board out, I saw very few cars getting parked on pit road. Also, that sign board was a f'ing joke. Small, white, and they're holding it up at one of the fastest points on the track; plus, in the dark, it's where you need to be paying attention to the kink, not trying to read that stupid board.

Thanks to the Simon team for letting me hang out after the team I was going to crew for blew up in the sprint races.

Good luck to all teams for the rest of the race.

Tried to get a shot of at least all the THSCC teams out there this weekend. Apologies if I missed anyone:
