I had a blast; the most fun that I've had at an HPDE in years.
Simply amazing how much fun a
car that works can be. :-)
As great as Mark V. is as an instructor, that one ride along with you was worth a year of HPDEs. Seeing is believing. I really can go through T10 way faster than I do. (based on sound, I'd say 70-80mph -- we'll see when I get the solo) You're turning in to T11 before I'm even braking -- between 3 and 2 -- and at full throttle. That is also the only place where you do left-foot braking well. Though, I will commend you on that (unintended) 3rd gear clutchless downshift! As Ron once said in class, "sometimes you just gotta get it done." We're both clumsy at it, but my 2:35.66 lap was a masterful bit of lfb. (and then I brought it back to the paddock.)
I had my reservations about the "use the entire track to execute a pass" drill, but it went well. As I provided Rich at lunch, not everyone obeyed the "stay on your side of the track" rule. Also, people weren't giving points entering T1 like they were instructed. There will be much teeth gnashing when he watches the entire 25min. Note to anyone who ever sees that video, the camera is on a rather soft mount, so hitting any gators looks *really* rough -- in that exercise, I'm deep into T4 and T12, and sometimes T14. The only complaint I'll make is about the pair who started in the up hill esses at 80mph and then decided that was too fast, 80+ is spin inducing territory for the Duff Civic. (and I thought we were gonna go for it with some speed. For the record, I was passed there at chump, in the rain, at night, at a "high rate of speed". That'll f'ing wake you up.)
