Hey guys and gals, looking forward to running with you all at VIR!

Although this will not be my 1st time on track as I have run with NASA-SE, SVT Club, SVT Cobra Club and Turn 1 Events at CMP over the last 10 years this will be my 1st time with the Tarheel Sports Car Club in the Blue Group. I have the following questions:

1. Tech Inspection - Is there a form available for this that I can fill out and bring with me to registration?
2. Parking Overnite - I will be towing my car to the track and usually stay in the truck in the parking area and take advantage of the restroom and shower facilities at the track. Does VIR allow this and if so would I have to pay a fee?
3. Registration Times - what time will we be allowed to enter the track on Friday for registration?

Tom

1. http://thscc.com/timetrial/nonhtml/Annu ... ection.pdf Take it to a reputable race shop and have them give your car a once over.
2. You can show up on Friday evening; however, I am not sure what the camping fees are for VIR. I haven't done it, it's fairly cheap if you use a power outlet.
3. Eventually (Usually past 4pm or so)

Tom - Glad you are able to join us.

Tech Inspection - Here is the tech form. It will need to be completed by the reputable shop of your choice.

Parking - VIR does allow paddock camping. I would contact them for details. (434) 822-7700 ext. 101

Entering the track on Friday. It's usually in the neighborhood of 5-6PM depending if VIR has something else going on that day. I'll send an e-mail out the week of the event with a more definite answer.

Look forward to meeting you. See you at the track.

You can be sure that whatever time we are told by VIR, it will be wrong.

If we are told 3:00pm and you arrive at 2:30, you may have to wait until 5:00pm. If we are told 5:00 and you show up at 4:30 you'll discover everyone else was let in earlier at 3:00pm.

Thanks guys, looking forward to meeting and running with you all!

I called VIR and to stay in my truck at the track would be $35.00 for the weekend. They said you would pay at the gate or registration depending on the event. If you need eletricity that would be an additional $25.00 for the weekend.

I plan on heading that way on Friday morning form Chapin, SC. Anyone else going from the Columbia, SC area?

I usually leave Raleigh Friday after work and get there relatively early Friday night. Ricky will probably be with me, unless he decides to drive his own car. I think that's all of the team that's going to this one. I look forward to spending my birthday with all of you.

Agree that the Saturday schedule looks better than Sunday this year.

We may have Danny with us. He's been driving the Duff car for a couple of years, but this would be his first HPDE. Two more drivers and we'll have someone in every run group.

Just wanted to offer a BIG THANKS to the gang for putting on such a great event! Very smooth as usual - even with a whole bunch of cars. The yellow group was a bit dicey with a couple black flags on Saturday, but we seem to eventually get it sorted out.

The Mazda was better with a new clutch and my new WOT speed limiter switch - definitely faster! Unfortunately, I went home early with a badly vibrating CV joint. It was fine a month ago when I replaced the clutch, but by Sat afternoon the boot was split and all the grease was gone. :(

Sure wish we had a second CMP event scheduled this year. :poke: :D

I had a blast; the most fun that I've had at an HPDE in years.

Yes, it was a great event. I need to remind myself how much fun I had when next year's schedule comes out.

I'll join everyone else in saying what a great event this was. Thanks to everyone who put it together. Even though I run HPDEs with other groups, the Tarheel events are by far my favorite. Great setup and excellent instructors.

I had a blast. Saturday was brutal in the paddock with all that new asphalt. Lets see those highlight reels.

Here I am on the last lap of the last session of the weekend trying to be an example for Ron to use in the future.

Here is the full session. Critiques welcome. The brake indicator is a rough approximation based off the accelerometer.

Simply amazing how much fun a car that works can be. :-)

As great as Mark V. is as an instructor, that one ride along with you was worth a year of HPDEs. Seeing is believing. I really can go through T10 way faster than I do. (based on sound, I'd say 70-80mph -- we'll see when I get the solo) You're turning in to T11 before I'm even braking -- between 3 and 2 -- and at full throttle. That is also the only place where you do left-foot braking well. Though, I will commend you on that (unintended) 3rd gear clutchless downshift! As Ron once said in class, "sometimes you just gotta get it done." We're both clumsy at it, but my 2:35.66 lap was a masterful bit of lfb. (and then I brought it back to the paddock.)

I had my reservations about the "use the entire track to execute a pass" drill, but it went well. As I provided Rich at lunch, not everyone obeyed the "stay on your side of the track" rule. Also, people weren't giving points entering T1 like they were instructed. There will be much teeth gnashing when he watches the entire 25min. Note to anyone who ever sees that video, the camera is on a rather soft mount, so hitting any gators looks *really* rough -- in that exercise, I'm deep into T4 and T12, and sometimes T14. The only complaint I'll make is about the pair who started in the up hill esses at 80mph and then decided that was too fast, 80+ is spin inducing territory for the Duff Civic. (and I thought we were gonna go for it with some speed. For the record, I was passed there at chump, in the rain, at night, at a "high rate of speed". That'll f'ing wake you up.)
