I'm sorry to hear that the twin took a hit, but I'm glad to hear that you're ok. What I learned at CMP was that you have to be on the gas when you hit the kink and just hold on. I'll be glad when both of you get back to the track.

I sprayed primer on it this morning, paint tomorrow I hope. So I will see the track again soon

I'm still trying to wrap my head around your description of the incident. You describe it like too much rear grip, but if that were the case, you would have gone off straight (track left), and you didn't go off straight, or track left.

Scott; I also find the whole thing confusing. On the two occasions I ran at CMP years ago, the instructors always stressed to not get too far right at the apex of the kink, since the bumpiness could upset the car's balance just when max G force is needed. It looks like both the Corvette and Civic were way right, and the Civic did a very early apex also.

The Civic looked like a pretty clear 'turned in way too early and didn't realize it.' Obviously there is some 20/20 when you see the title of the video but right when I saw his positioning as he approached the apex it was pretty clear he was going off. Then he hung onto it until a wheel dropped instead of using the acre(s) of runoff that is there. Pretty much textbook 'what not to do when you run out of track.'

It's really hard to tell what happened with Jerry without seeing the steering wheel. If I had to guess hitting the apex too far to the right pushed him out then he pinched the exit to try and stay on the black. It's pretty much impossible to say without video of the inputs and, at least from my own experience, what I think I did is usually drastically different from what actually happened when I review the video/data.

That's LeMons for ya'. Any off-track will get you yelled at, even for "doing the right thing". (I'm not sure the Judges have attended many HPDE's.) Still, I'd prefer to drive back and chat with The Chris's than have a half dozen workers pulling tires out my engine bay, and then have to explain to the judges and your team why the car looks like it just crashed through a shopping mall.

As far as I can tell I hit the apex just about how I always do. I'm not really sure what exactly happened. I do wish I had a camera view of the wheel to compare that to other laps too. I'm blaming it on the tires since they were the only thing that I know changed. I know for certain I will be approaching the kink a bit more cautiously from now on.

On a good note, painted the Vette this morning and the color match is perfect. Really excited to buff this out in a few days and put it all back together!
