That could be how it works. I registered right after I got the e-mail and got the discount. It doesn't seem fair to all of the people who registered before the venue change, but I'll take the $50.

That was my Dad's 2nd favorite thing to say to me and my brother. His first was "that sounds like a personal problem".

I'm going. I was originally going to be at NCCAR, but this will be just as fun or maybe more. I am running the Grand Course with Track Daze the week after this, so it will be a nice preview of some sections of the track I have never seen.

Usually these will be in opposite directions as Grand Course is typically run entering as if on South and exiting as if on North. When Patriot is run in a continuous lap, it is run in a clockwise direction, opposite of the typical Grand Course (although I believe VIR Club has run Grand Course the other way too, entering as if on North, following Patriot around to the South course portion and then rejoining the track as if on South course).

I've seen them running the Atoms anti-clockwise on Patriot. (i.e. in the grand west direction.) Either direction will be an interesting day.

Chuck is correct, but I'll add that driving Patriot in it's (I believe) intended clockwise direction won't help you much driving Grand. Doing the spiral uphill is quite the difference!

If full is being run, which it is, then they run Patriot CW.

Already registered. I just wrapped up a daunting list of mods and repairs to the Vette for it:

Oil, trans and diff coolers
Harness bar and harnesses
Sport seats
K&N Airbox
Raybestos ST47 racing pads
StopTech 2 piece rotors
header wrapped the tie-rods
and repaired a leaky trans-axle
Bought extra tires and brakes to see me through.

I was preparing the car for what I am calling TrackVember

3 HPDEs in a week and a half: NASA at CMP Nov 2-3, VIR Patriot Nov 9, Track Daze VIR Nov 11-12, then to RoadAtlanta Nov 30-Dec 1.

I can't wait to try everything out!

See you at CMP!

Damn man, that's hardcore.

I'll see you at CMP for sure, still thinking about AV at VIR, not sure if I can swing it or not.

Why header wrap tie rods?

On those C5 Vettes, the outer tie rods are about half an inch away from the brake rotors. The cars are known for melting the tie rod boots off once you start building enough heat in the brakes. I've only been running in novice class so far and have already noticed the front boots look a little charred. I'm thinking that I would have had trouble with a bit more speed and higher heat from the more aggressive pads. Next up will likely be a more direct brake cooling duct.

That makes sense, we are experiencing something similar with stick-on wheel weights. If we make a pit stop and the weights are above the rotors, then the sticky stuff melts and the weights fall off by the time we refuel and change drivers.

The issue with stick-on weights happened all the time on the Mustang. Finally I started using a three-fold plan that seems to be working. First I use a paint pen to draw an outline around the weights. Then I use Gorilla tape over the weights themselves. Finally I use the paint pen to write near the area the size and number of weights in case they do come off. I have replacements I now keep on hand. It's not fool proof, but it has helped.

I was going to try just having them balanced with weights that clamp on the inside of the wheels. It's not optimal, but we'll see how it works.
