I heard about the unfortunate events that transpired at the Lemon's CMP race. Very sorry for the family.

But out of curiosity, how did the follow thscc'ers do at the race?

Grim Reaper was #13

Magnum, PU was #113

Silver Bullets were #102

The Grim Reaper guys were in the top 10 most of the race, being consistent as always. Magnum, PU only completed 7 laps as our newly re-built engine kept overheating. The Silver Bullets posted a FTD with Randy running a 1:55. Their 5.0L had vapor lock issues, which plagued them both days.

Obviously the race was cut short on Saturday after the mortal incident, but repairing the armco is what delayed the Sunday start until about 1:30. The race was extended from 4:00 to 5:30, which made for a late tow home.

My laps has the Silver Bullets as 99, top 100 Baby! Car was a blast when we could keep it on track.

On a serious note, I think Jay and crew handled things as well as they could. After the black flag they announced that the car had gone off with out steering input or braking and the driver "was not going to make it" from that I could guess it wasn't a racing related accident which made a little easier to deal with. Still kind of surreal being right there when someone dies. It was good luck that nobody was in turn 14 when it happened, it could have been a lot worse. One of the teams went around taking an offering for the family and I think they got 4800 which I heard Jay matched.

I got the results from Race Monitor this morning, which would account for the difference I guess.

We made it 7 laps and didn't finish last. That's sad :) - AB

Although we were as high as 5th at one point; we ended up 77th after this:

There were no signs of detonation or any other problems. It was running perfectly and then suddenly cracked in half. That motor had a lot of track miles on it:

April 6-7 - THSCC - HPDE - VIR North
May 4-5 - Track Daze - HPDE - VIR Full
June 15-16 - THSCC - HPDE - CMP
Aug 9-11 - Chump - VIR Grand West 24 hours
Sep 7-8 - THSCC - HPDE - VIR Full
Sep 21-22 - LeMons - CMP

All of the HPDE's had drivers in 3 run groups except for the last one which just had two of us driving. I think that I may have just reached the limit of a cheap Rock Auto cast piston. I'm now looking at forged piston options, but I need a high-silicon forged piston so I don't have to run a bunch of extra piston-wall clearance and end up destroying my cylinder walls. I can get one from SRP, or Supertech has one that's made by Mahle that would also work. Of course that means that my pistons and rods would exceed the $ limit for the car per the rules, but they would not give me any performance advantage, and I'd really like to be able to just drive the car for a season without having to replace the engine.

That was just theoretical. All of my motors are bone-stock junkyard motors with 1,000,000 miles on them. The same goes for my shocks, and bushings, and springs, and everything else.

At tech, Jay was looking under the car at our gas tank to check for leaks. He told us that the black spray paint was flaking off of our big cheaty red aftermarket sway bar and that we should give it another coat before the BS judges noticed it.

Think we finished 11th (or so I was told). Our first time out of the top 10 since 2010. I'll take that with a rookie driver ( my daughter) in the car. Our sister team, the 1975 Austin Marina won the C class.

Bummer the other THSCC teams had some challenges. Next time.

You were 11th. I can post up your lap times if you like.
