Well race is over and it went very well. The Grim Reaper Racing Mustang finished 2nd overall, 2 laps behind the winner. Our latest project, a 1975 Austin Marina, finished in 44th (out of 100 cars) and won the IOE. Neither car got a scratch. An Alfa did hit a deer during the race though...

Next stop, CMP in September.....

Nice job! How was the turnout? I'd guess it was a big field?

They cut the field from about 120 last year to 100 this year. Problem was the pits are not big enough for all the teams. I was worried about the carnage from last year. I talked with some corner workers and found that last year they used the same radios as the NASA Hyperfest workers and had problems so they could not communicate between flaggers during the race. The track rented different radios this year and all was well, a very clean race.

This is actually a great lemons track and a ton of fun. It really rewards good driving.

The track doesn't _own_ radios?

Sounded like they do but with all the NASA activities going on, the NASA people were using the Lemons flaggers channels or feedback was causing the problems. She said they rented a different radio and solved the problems.

At one point, one of the Lemons teams came to me and told me our radios were stepping all over multiple teams on different channels. They could hear us but we couldn't hear them. I changed channels and solved the problem. Guess even though your are on a specific channel, the radios can feed over to other channels.

It was actually a well run race (after I tossed out the team that tried to poach our pit space).

Please tell me that it wasn't a green gar that came from Al Taylor. I bought one from Kurt Spitzner that had been abandoned in one of Bowies's warehouses. I paid $100 for that car and Curt delivered it. Pete still remembers me trying to d a compression test while he (at 10 years old) spun the starter. The car had a bad head gasket leak and the cylinders were full of water and I got soaked while he laughed himself silly. One phone call to
"Reverend Al" had the car removed from my driveway for free. I never quite forgave Kurt for the sales pitch he did on that car....uses many of the same parts as your MGB....yeah right. More research in advance next time.

You realize now the folly of buying a car based on the advice of someone (THSCC club president notwithstanding) who autocrossed a Metallic Prune 6-cylinder automatic Gremlin....... Charlie? Charlie? You do realize the folly of..... Charlie? Charlie?

Sorry about the hijack. Congrats to the Grim Reaper team !
