edited for you - is "morbidly obese jerk" better? I mentioned his size because it was an issue - his overly dramatic antics made me think he was going to break my passenger seat -- and he kept getting in the way when I was shifting.

I call it like I see it. Sorry if it hurts your feelings, but the things the guy was doing and saying were really not constructive at all, and he got to be pretty annoying.

It's not enough to just show up and get in the car with somebody, you have to add something positive to the experience. It would be nice if more people would remember that.

On a different note, my experience at VIR with Alan Giles in the passenger seat (and playing lead/follow with him later on) was probably my favorite motorsports event period, up until we got the rally car. Great attitude, great teacher, great time all weekend. It's too bad they can't all be like him. btw, his nasioc username is "DrSideways" - so uh... you know the conclusion to draw.

One of my first few instructors started my day with an inspection of my E36 only to tell me that he wasn't sure it was safe enough for him to ride in.

Wow, when I think about some of the ridiculous deathtraps that I've shown up at a HPDE in, including the current loosely assembled conglomeration of zip ties, wire nuts, and fail that I'm calling a race car, I can't imagine an instructor not wanting to get in an E36.
