Anybody know of any clubs that have access to and won't charge an arm and a leg to goof off on a skid pad for half an hour? I know that VIR and CMP will rent it out, but it costs $Texas.

Interesting...I just got this e-mail.

Quote:
CRMC Members & Driving School Enthusiasts,

I just want to make sure you knew that we will be back again this year on
Friday, May 31st on the skid pad at CMP! If you missed us last year or heard
how much fun it was, here's your opportunity to get in on it:

Are you just starting your performance driving career? Do you want to get more
in-tune with how your car feels or acts when it is out of control but want to do
it in a safe environment? Do you want to take your driving skills to the next
level? Are you interested in learning the fundamentals of drifting? If you
answered "yes" to any or all of these questions, then you'll want to attend at
least one session of fun and learning at Carolina Motorsport Park's skid pad
(Kershaw, SC.) Hosted by Ronn Hale and Dan Buckle from RH Motorsports, you'll
experience a very different aspect of learning car control which will be very
beneficial not just for on-track driving but also for your everyday commutes.

Pricing is $65 for the 1/2-day school (4 sessions per driver, MAX of 11 DRIVERS,
8am to 12:30pm only), $45 for a 2-session afternoon mini school (anytime from
1:30pm to 5:30pm) and $25 for an afternoon single 5-minute session (anytime the
pad is available after lunch.) There are discounts for multiple session
packages, too, which can be added on and paid on site: two 5-minute sessions
$40; three 5-minute sessions $60; four 5-minute sessions $75. If you
participate in the 1/2-day school and still want more, each additional 5-minute
session for you is only $15.

The 1/2-day and mini schools will include a short vehicle dynamics classroom
session, and all sessions will include professional in-car instruction. Helmets
are not required, shorts and short sleeve shirts are allowed (this is a "dress
for the weather" event.) No special safety equipment is required, and
convertibles are allowed. Windows may stay in the "up" position. Drivers must
be at least 15 years of age and possess a valid driver's license or driving
permit. All drivers must sign a liability waiver at CMP's main registration
building at the gate on the day of the event before participating.

Those interested in attending the 1/2-day school MUST pre-register with Ronn
Hale directly. Pre-registration for mini schools or single/multiple sessions
are encouraged to assure a time slot. Individual sessions and mini schools may
also be arranged on-site depending upon the number of open time slots left. All
drive sessions are assigned as first-come first-served. Due to the limited
number of driver slots available, refunds will be handled on a case by case
basis and may or may not be granted. NO refunds will be given for cancellations
within 7 days of the event. Credit/debit cards and checks are gladly accepted
for pre-registration; cash or card gladly accepted as on-site payment methods.
This event will be held RAIN or SHINE (rain is highly preferred!!)

I hope to see you there,

Ronn Hale

I thought that the CMP skid pad was relatively affordable. I asked them about it at one point, but I forget what they told me the rental rate was.

I seem to remember it was something like $200 or $350 for the day. We (Duff Beer) were thinking about renting it one day before a race or DE and fully killing some already dead tires.
