Sounds like when I burnt my pistons. Pushed enough pressure into the crank to cover the entire bottom of the car with a healthy coating of oil. My Miata will never rust, ever.

Thanks Steve. Timing and scoring lost one of our laps when we made the pit stop. We came in 1/2 a lap ahead of Nemo for gas and came out just in front of them. Finished just in front by half a car length. Even they could not figure out how we went a lap down to them when they never passed us. We had transponder problems and had to have them add back missing laps all weekend. Looks like I just need to buy one that works....

Regardless of the T&S snafu, you guys ran a clean, smart, hard race. You deserved the good finish. Congrats. - AB

Check it out Speedycop made the cover page of Yahoo.

You gotta love 24 HOL. Where else can you race against a Toyota van with a Cessna body?!

2:15 from checker, coming around T6 the car suddenly sounded very wrong, but I was surrounded by other traffic and thought it might just be one of them. But then I noticed my smoke trail and said (yes, I talk to myself while driving) "I've seen this BBQ before"... I got over, let traffic clear -- who knows, I might be throwing various fluids everywhere -- and yep, that odd I'm-running-on-3-cyl sound was me. And I had absolutely no power. At idle it wasn't shaking -- and would idle just fine -- so I puttered back to the paddock. No compression on cyl-2. Robert took it back out with #2 injector disconnected. It lasted 20-30 min before he barely got it back to the hot pit. A cart pushed it back to the paddock.

We were in a solid 6th place -- second in class -- at the time. :-(

[Note: It was burning oil "slowly" all day Saturday. It never came off track so we never had a chance to top it back off. I was in it up to the checker -- 45min or so. It would drop to zero oil pressure around every corner. That'll teach you to drive a momentum car! Completely unpowered cornering. In retrospect, we should've brought it off track and put oil in it. At the end of the day, it was 2q+ low, and it started ~1 high; it was just touching the dip stick.]

we learned that at chump. It is well worth the investment.

what did you buy? I am thinking one that is wired into the car, one less thing I will forget to charge. I haven't done any research yet to figure what is needed.... I don't know if there are different kinds or special requirements.

AFAIK, there are two types, hard-wired, and rechargeable. We all have the hard-wired version and have never had a problem.

We had a hardwired one. It failed (costing us a race.) Sent it back for repair. They sent us back a battery powered one saying they don't make wired ones anymore. Sucks. One more thing to have to charge. And, as Roger did this weekend, one more thing to forget on the way to the track.

(He forgot the transponder, key to the car, and gas cans. I didn't notice the cans before I left.)

I can relate to forgetting... I forgot to turn on the Go Pro for most of the stints. Some of the most epic driving in the history of the world happened too (at least that is how I remember it).

Thanks for the transponder info.

I just dumped a whole lot of water out of the Duff car oil pan. Given the way the oil was projectile vomiting out of the breather box, I think that I could have some cracked sleeves. That would be a first for the car.
