From their Facebook:

Virginia International Raceway
Whether you are a car or bike enthusiast we have something for everyone. Tarheel Sports Car Club is here on our north course and NESBA will be on the south course. Admission is $10.00 per person per day. Then end your evening for drinks and dinner at the Oak Tree Tavern.

Wow VIR, really? THSCC gets a cut of that of course, right?

I'm assuming this is new since I've never heard of it before.

tsk, tsk, tsk, anyone that believes VIR will chase off customers by charging more is mistaken. i believe that discussion occurred this weekend actually..... something about a big chicken and who (whom?) was actually holding the head.

if nothing else maybe some of those spectators might decide to run a HPDE with us some day. i was amazed by the number of cars at the open house. sadly 60% were convertibles.

Actually, I remember them saying they would charge a $10 entry fee for non-participants ever since they opened. Back then you just had to say you were with the THSCC event and they let you in for free. Things have probably changed since I haven't been there in years.

I don't recall them "advertising" HPDE dates as a spectator events though. I'd wonder what the track is doing to keep random spectators out of harms way? and out of everyones stuff in the pits?

Technically, spectators shouldn't be in the paddock area. But there's no actual gate at the entrance (that I recall), and there's no staff there. There are specific places for spectators to park, and watch. (trivial to walk from there to the paddock...)

I got a letter from VIR last week. Since I'm in VA now, they are going to charge me 10$ to show up at me kid's soccer or dance practice too. I tried to tell them it was just practice, not even an event just like a HPDE, but they didn't care.

I'm going to tell VIR that you showed up yesterday. The bill should be in the mail.

I told them I was driving. They didn't ask if that only included parade laps.

I'm not at all surprised. As I have said many times before, if VIR could figure out a way to charge for the air we breathe they would do so.

Soon you'll have to pay for your paddock parking spot.

Or pay for any parking. Paddock or otherwise?

And a thread about a HPDE wouldn't be complete without me saying what I broke during it. As awful as my car sounded it turned out to just be a broken/clogged cat. Watching some video I may have hit it on the ground in T7, things went downhill shortly after I went uphill. I'm sure my piston melting adventures weakened it beforehand.
