I flushed the brake fluid (w/ATE Type 200) in my RX-8 four months ago (a few days before the April VIR-N HPDE) and haven't been on track since April. Do I need to flush the fluid again for this Friday's VIR open lapping day, or is it likely to be okay as is? (I don't have much time between now and Friday to do this so would prefer to avoid it if the existing fluid is likely to be fine.) Worst case, I'll have the ability to flush the fluid at the track if it comes down to it, but I'd really hate to miss track time while laying in the dirt flushing brake fluid.

FWIW, I'm running Hawk HT-10 pads on Hankook R-S3's in the red group.

I'd do it again if it were me. Brakes are one of those things that you can never be too careful with preperation.

4.6 Brake Fluid
Cars must have clear fresh fluid when presented at annual tech and must be
flushed within 3 months of an event. DOT 3 or DOT 4 high temperature
rated fluid is recommended. However, the “freshness” of the fluid is more
important then it’s temp rating when new. This is of critical importance.

granted this is from the time trial rulebook, but you will be running at near time trial speeds in Red Group. flush it again, cheap insurance.

it certainly doesn't hurt, but probably not necessary. i change the ate200 in my race car twice a year and work it a lot harder than you have.

Cool - sounds good. So am I understanding correctly that you've had no problems on track with ATE200 that was over 4 months old?

Awesome - thanks, Jason (and everyone else who posted input). Guess I'll give it a try without flushing the fluid (and bring the stuff with me just in case).

Keith,

If you're pressed for time, just flush the fronts as those are the ones that matter. It will only take perhaps 30min total for the whole process start to finish.

I think I have about 1/2 a can of ATE TYP200 that I just cracked open yesterday if you want it to do the fronts with it.

Thanks for the offer, James, but I won't need it. I have a full/new can of ATE T200 I'll be bringing with me to the track.
