First workday on the car this Friday. Stripping the interior and the likes. Why does this sound like I am at the top of a steep slippery slope  8)

Yep, slippery slope. Take a nice picture of yourself for your spouse/kids so they can have something to remember you by for the next few months

Here's some inspiration for you guys. So how do make a POS Porsche 924 into a Lemons worth machine? Drop in the engine and transmission from a Ford Thunderbird Turbo Coupe!

Well.... Finally!!! After 3 months of car searching, I found one... Pictures to come tomorrow!

Can hardly wait to get started. It has been awhile since I have been this excited about track stuff.

Here is a picture of car after washing the 1/4" baked on dirt off.

Previous owner did a tune up and couldn't get it running afterwards. Didn't have the heart to tell him the spark plug wires were completely crossed up... Well, this thing probably needs a new engine so $500 it is... :)

Oh, and the crossed plug wires. At least cyl 1 was correct... I'm going to check the timing belt first before firing it up.

Looks like a good candidate Scott. Do you have a target race you are trying to get it ready by?

Nice find Scott, let me know if you need any advice -- we'll be happy to give you plenty of misdirection so you can't possibly beat us :)

Hahah!! Yeah. Hey, I'll take all the endurance racing advice as I can.

So here is an update. Double checked cam timing and everything looks great. Corrected the firing order and it started right up.
It did smoke a ton when it first started up but I bet it was from the god knows how much oil feel into the plugs when he was dinkin around with it. After running for 10-15min the smoke was nearly gone so I don't know if it is real or going to go away.

Checked compression. Motor is pretty healthy. 190 185 190 190. Need to double check stock #'s but that sounds pretty good.

Could a motor have really good compression and still burn oil out the pipe?

Not yet but it will be next year. We are going to get the car sorted out and bring it to an hpde later this year for a test and tune.

April 2012 at Charlotte would be the target first race.

Valve stem seals could be shot or oil control rings could be shot. You'd have good compression but still burn oil.

Good way to check would be bring it up to speed (45-50mph) then engine brake way down (10-15mph). If it spews smoke when you hit the gas again one of those 2 has issues. Oil control rings also tend to smoke under normal accel as well as accel after high vacuum.

Have you ever seen The General Lei run? The compression levels are right in spec and it burns about 1 quart of oil in 40 runs!
