The big question is, why aren't people signing up? I know of a few folks that are having car issues, but that's a very small percentage. I suspect a big issues is the Rolex race going on at VIR. I know LeMon's being the following weekend has a few folks sitting this one out.
1. multiple events the same weekend. i'm sure the grand am race at vir doesn't help but i don't know how much overlap there is between watching and driving. the june event at cmp, for example, is competing with four other options that same weekend (chump at roebling, lemons at shenandoah, nasa-ma at summit, nasa-se at road atlanta).
2. increased participation in racing, whether it be nasa, lemons, chump, or whatever. a driver who races is generally less likely to participate in hpdes due to lack of time, money, interest, etc.
3. economic necessity has probably taken some people out of the track pool.
4. more events - nccar has increased track time supply, right about the same time that #2 and #3 above have decreased demand. charlotte speedway seems to be hosting more amateur-level events these days, and with AMP supposedly coming online later this year supply will increase even more in the southeast region.
5. hate to say it but nccar just isn't a great track compared to vir or cmp. i don't know anyone who does more track events than me and nccar isn't on my calendar once this year (i drove there three or four weekends last year). although i will say that if you've never driven there you should definitely try it!
